    mouse freezes or disappears

    Greetings
    OS:Windows 10 Pro
    winver: 1809 b17763.678

I have two microsoft wired usb mouses with 5 buttons (left right wheel back forward) not connected together.
Recently one freezes after a while than I replace it with the second and everything continues well for some time.
I tried few usb ports but I can't make one of them work all the time.
Does anyone know this phenomenon? can it be fixed?
    please help
    thank you

does it disappear in device manager too when frozen ?
are the mice or the mobo old enough so we to suspect damaged cords or loosen ports ?
are you on updated drivers ?

device manager had two entries for one mouse (I use them one at a time): Microsoft intelimouse and HID compliant.
Since both are microsoft I removed the HID compliant.
I didn't have any yellow or red sign to inform that something was wrong.
    drivers are updated.
One mouse is new since I thought the older one was dead. The other is pretty old but it works (in fact it work now)
so I assume nothing is wrong with cable or engine and it is some software problem and not hardware.
I didn't look into the registry to see if there is something I didn't see in control panel--> mouse.
thank you for your quick answer

    I don't know what is a dism
I received all updates offered but still in winver 1809
the mouse is working for few days now
after removing from device manager the superfluous component of HID compliant (leaving only Microsoft mouse)
    Thanks again

the mouse is wired, usb, 5 button, Microsoft

I had same problem on a wired mouse a long time ago.
The mouse cable has at least 4 thin wires inside. Two for power and two or more for data.
As you move the mouse it always bend at the same place near the mouse.
The problem is that one of the thin wires brakes inside the cable near the mouse the cable exit.
I fixed it by opening the mouse, and cutting the cable in 8cm (3").

sounds reasonable only I have two mouses (not simulataneously attached) and both behave the same way.
The probability of both having cable problem is very low. The second mouse is new.
I think that removing the HID compliant component from the device manager's mose solved the problem
