Touchpad is a mess, cursor jumping all over when selecting text

The reset touchpad option is greyed out.
We had started using a mouse, seems the touchpad now is terrible.

    How to fix it?

I may have fixed it. Went to device manager uninstalled ASUS precision touchpad. Then cntrol-alt-delete to sign out, then tab to restart pc.

testing it seems to be ok again.

But seriously how to reset when reset button is greyed out?

Hi, do you actually have Win 10? Your specs say Win 7.. If Win 10, please advise
    - the exact build
    - the exact model of the laptop (your specs refer to a desktop) - see my specs for comparison.
    (There's a tutorial if needed).
    - the build number and type of your touchpad driver
    - a link to latest drivers for your laptop.

    How old is your lapop?

    Thanks.

Problem just came back, worse than ever.

    What now.

    - - - Updated - - -

For example not just copying text, simply dragging the right scroll bar by holding down left mouse key on touchpad to pull down that bar it goes crazy. Starts auto-scrolling the whole page, randomly highlights text.

The problem though is precipitated by highlighting any text on a web page. Regardless of browser, at least it does it on edge too.

Honestly it is real bad, to the point of being unusable.

Maybe it is not a software problem, maybe it is a problem with your hardware device. Is it still under warranty?

Not all problems are software; hardware can still fail.

Ran Malwarebytes found 3 PUP, quarantined, problem instantly gone.

Nothing wrong with the hardware. If you delete a driver and reinstall and problem is gone. Not hardware.
If you scan for malware and delete the malware, and problem is gone, it is not hardware.

I just turned off google chrome sync, maybe the malware is syncing in from my other connected pc?

    solved here

Here's what worked for my Asus Q304UAK:

Back of the touchpad (a circuit with a chip) had a lot of dirt. Cleaned it with toothbrush. Unplugged and plugged back in the ribbon cable. Not sure if the latter is what actually fixed it, but it never hurts. Cleaned the whole area underneath the bottom cover of laptop.

Interestingly when it was messed up, the temporary fix would be closing and opening back up the screen. Static electricity?
