WARNING! Should I be scared??

I purchase a 2 TB HDD to archive an important file. The clone of my important file went fine but I get the warning boxes shown in the attached screenshots. I did a chkdsk/F as admin and there are zero problems reported.

Do I need to return or buy another HDD or is the Windows report of no problems sufficient to ignore my paranoia and to assume all's well?

I'll be happy to perform other diagnostics and to report back with screenshots.

Honestly if the drive is still under warranty I'd just replace it to rid myself of any worry and potential problems down the road. No need in getting a headache in trying to figure out what's what when the drive is still under warranty.

BTW if you have Lightroom and an SSD drive you'd do well to put the LR catalog there for better performance.

That's actually a good point... assuming the drive is an external (portable) one. Though I've seen that warning associated with thumb drives as opposed to HDD drives.

I find it odd there is no eject option for your portable drive. Are you sure that's the case? Here's what it should look like (Win 10) when a drive is inserted (installed)….



The red box shows the eject button. As you can see in the image I have to option to eject my T5 external drive.

Regarding the "bad drive" issue, given the new info you posted along with your screen shots, may have come from just removing the drive without ejecting it first. In short, the drive itself may not be (going) bad. But...

Ever since I can remember I ejected a disc by right-clicking and getting the window shown in my screenshot below. I hit "Eject" and get the "safe to remove" return. Usually with a thumb drive. I never accessed the tool tray to get the icon in your message. Now that I see that option to eject, I'll use it.

Yanking my EHD without ejecting is likely (hopefully) the reason for the error that caused my concern.

Thanks for the Wrap Code tag advice also. I wasn't aware of that either.
