    Ext. hard drive not detected, maybe driver usb issue or hardware?

    Hello, I recently wanted to access my ext. hard drive. But it wasn't show up on explorer. I looked up on disk management, it's there, but with free space 100%, (it's weird because i know it shouldn't be empty). I tried on other usb port, still same issue. Then i try with my other ext. hard drive, i even swaped the cable and case (i have some ext. hard drive), still the same issue. And then, when i plugged it in at my friend's notebook, it does work normally (all of them).
    I suspect the problem come from my usb driver. But I plug some of my flashdrives, it does work, even with my other mouses. I uninstalled the usb driver and let windows fix it self, doesn't work. I even use driverpack, choose chipset and controller storage, still doesn't work.
    If it was a hardware (usb port) problem, it shouldn't work with any usb i plugged is it? Or it's other issue i don't know. I want to mount the drive (because disk mgmt recognize it), but i'm afraid it will format my ext. hard drive.

    I'm currently on 1903 build 18362.329
    I appreciate any responses, and pardon my english :))

    Hi there

    @moeismu

    (I do hate those dark / black themes everybody thinks are all the rage these days-- but that's your choice of course !!) simply go into DISKPART --> List Disk select disk nn where the disk is the one that isn't showing up in Windows explorer and then simpy type assign then exit.

    Otherwise if you don't like the command line go into control panel --it's still there even in latest versions of W10, choose administrative commands -->computer management --->Disk management and you should see your HDD there with no letter assigned -- just change letter assignment and you should see the HDD

    As Jimbo has explained, there is no drive letter assigned to the partition. Drive letters are assigned by the OS and yours is blank.
    That is why it shows on other computer and not on yours.
    Open Disk Manager (C:\Windows\System32\diskmgmt.msc), right click on the disk 2 partition and select Change Drive Letter and paths. Assign a letter to it and it will show on Explorer.
