Bluetooth and SD Card Reader Code 45

I have and HP laptop running Windows 10 64-bit

This week I have discovered both Bluetooth and SD Card reader were not working and had Code 45 when I checked in Device Manager.

Tried various things, updating drivers etc... and was getting nowhere so ended up resetting and reinstalling Windows and both returned however as soon as I started putting things back on they disappeared again, had only put on Avast and Google Chrome at this stage. Took them off and restarted but both Bluetooth and SD card reader not working again.

So do I reinstall again? Is it likely that it is Avast or Chrome than is causing the issue?

    Thanks in advance!

1 - what happens when you re-install the drivers after the error codes surface ?
2 - are you installing the latest drivers ?
3 - do you plug in any other USB peripherals when this happen ?

Reinstall drivers doesn't help. Downloaded latest ones. USB ports not working either.

So your problem may be the USB controllers drivers becoming obsolete rendering all peripherals to stop working .

This symptom happened starting windows 1803 * with laptops that weren't certified as Windows 10 laptops .

Microsoft legacied their Intel USB 2.0 drivers and wrote their own set .

Then however those who had the Intel set installed were never updated to new Microsoft ones .

To remedy this you need to head to :

    1 Device manager

    2 Under "Universal Bus Controllers"

3 Start by accessing each entry of "(chipset name) USB universal host controller - (digits here)"

    4 Right click Update Driver

5 Browse My Computer for Driver Software

    6 Let me pick..

7 Choose (chipset name) USB universal host controller - (digits here) (Microsoft)

    8 Then Next and Done

You will have to do this for the whole set of instance of controllers

If for any reason you can't find the Microsoft variant of the driver then i suggest you download a driver updating package such as "Driver Booster" , they are known to solve this issue with ease .

    * You may wonder but why you and why now ? It's Windows Updates , they are not uniform for everybody so you might have eventually got hit by the update that does that .
