I found a video, hidden on an HP website that gave very precise directions on cleaning a printhead assembly using warm distilled water. It completely revived a 10 year-old ink jet printer I have that was hopelessly clogged. I'll try to find it later and post a link.

Please DO post that link. I'm thinking of buying an Epson photo printer, and they have a known issue with printheads if not used all the time.

    Score!

    https://www.supportvideos.ext.hp.com...on-hp-printers

After the 10 minute soak, I used a paper towel to provide a light buffing of the printhead. I recall I chose to place the cartridges on the paper towel open-end down to reduce evaporation and let the printhead assembly dry for 3 or 4 hours. It must be the rebel in me after the narrator insisted I do differently.

And I cleaned printhead twice after installing in the printer. That was a few months ago and the printer still works great.

Americans use up 70% of the world resources while they comprise less than 5% of the world population. Doing something very tiny and believing that you are saving the planet? I think it's a little bit ridiculous.

On a much larger scale Britain's commitment to be 'carbon free' by 2050 -at huge cost- is a nonsense too.. because population growth in Africa and increasing usage in India and China will dwarf any UK and EU reduction plans by 6-8 times. Likewise plastic pollution despite bag charges and so-called plastic recycling is set to dramatically increase world-wide. Plastic litter? Just go to Italy. None visible in Slovenia, but everywhere away from the main streets in Italy- and that's an EU country.

So you can't point the finger at the US alone (and I'm British). Plastic recycling? Mountains of UK 'recycled' plastic were found lying exposed in Malaysia.

And as for us as computer and (probably) mobile phone users- look at the trail of mixed materials we leave, with the continual pressure to upgrade hardware.

Never mind, print less, use eco fonts, get refill kits rather than new cartridges, and we can feel we've 'done our bit' while the fish drown in an ocean of microparticles of degraded plastic.

Now, how much is that flight to Japan..

The UK's contribution to reducing global climate change will be as futile as pissing in the sea if the government' policy is successful due to our relatively low population.
