Extending C: on Disk 1 to unallocated space problems

I fear my lack of knowledge might be creating a problem.

Trying to help a friend with his W10 system.

    Disk 1 had partitions C: (System, boot,Page,...), and D:

Instead of moving some data to D: he wanted the space D: occupied to be merged into C:

I had him first verify that anything he needed on D: was backed up, then using Disk Management, we selected "Delete Volume"

The area which was D: is now showing as "Unallocated Space"

Now C: does not allow (Grayed out) Extend Volume.

Where did i go wrong?, and what remedies exist, please!

    Thank-you folks!

Hi, to modify your Windows partition, you need to use a 3rd party partition manager which can execute such changes on rebooting. E.g. Minitool Partition Wizard.

You are best advised to have a current disk image e.g. Macrium reflect - free- before making major changes to a system.

It's also possible you have a partition after C: that Disk Management (by design) does not show, which prevents extending C:
3rd party partition managers will do so.

If unsure, please post a full screen screenshot.
