Lagging keyboard. Sometimes text that I type doesn't show on screen.

My Computer / keyboard is lagging something fierce. It just started happening, and I have no clue what has caused it. The only thing that I've done is change mouses a couple times. I will type something in a text box, and sometimes the text will not show up for up to 5-10 seconds, and then it will show up slowly.

Also, maybe related? I don't know. It seems that some progams don't open as quick. I've gone through all the diagnostics , run all the cleaning and speed up programs in System Mechanic, and it shows as running okay. Also did the same thing with Glary Utilities. I'm totally befuddled. Also, the mouse lags (I've tried 3 different) and the scroll lags.

    Please, any suggestions?

I would uninstall System mechanic first, maybe some other, not very useful, apps too (Revo is fine for that purpose.

After that, run ADWcleaner, Malwerewbytes and if they report anything, we'll start to clean up.

Check you Startup apps (Task manager for start, Autoruns shows a bit more)

Why should I uninstall System Mechanic?

    Why should I use ADWCleaner?

I used to use Malware Bytes, but now use Bit Defender.

I have checked my startup programs, and only have a few that I want. I've disabled the rest.

    I'm so confused.

Could be related to some kind of malware. ADWcleaner is good at detecting it. I recommended to uninstall System mechanic, because there was a fake app circulating on the web a while ago.

Other thing is, that these "computer speed up" utilities can do more harm than they fix.

This is not necessarily connected with malware, could be with USB transmitter, if keyboard is wireless.

Keyboard is wired, always has been. Mouse is wireless, and same problem is occurring with old mouse.

I've had this version of System Mechanic for over 5 years, so I don't think it's that. Bit Defender has been good about finding malware. I will try ADWCleaner and see what it does.

The only other thing I can think that I changed was I just did several Windows Updates.

    It's driving me crazy.

    Thanks for the help.

Unless you have keylogger installed unknowingly it's usually a symptom of OS being rather busy in the background, for example paging memory to disk. Or doing some sort of unwanted maintenance. Or AV scan.

First of all: How does your memory utilisation / paging look? I see you only have 8 GB RAM?

I used ADWCleaner and it found 8 items which I deleted. The problem is still occuring, although not quite as bad.

What other information do you need?

I'm not familiar with System Mechanic but from what I can see it is some kind of a middle-man that manages your resources depending on requirements.

PowerSense Boosts System Speed Automatically When You Need It

The question is: what do you need it for?

It's a desktop computer - its power plan (in my opinion, of course) should always be set to High Performance (with its underlying component settings set to maximum speed or performance either) and there's no need to fiddle with it.

Additionally: please check what do you see in Task Manager (CPU and memory utilisation) and Resource Monitor (processes' details) rather than in System Mechanic. Another good tool is Process Explorer which can give you additional level of granularity.

As others suggested before: I would uninstall it and see what happens.

No idea how much proof you want that stuff like System Mechanic utilities don't work when you have real problems.
Get rid of both trivial fix it all applications, they are not doing any good. Your screen shot shows useless info, Real-Time status what rot...

I would make sure you have one Antivirus application installed updated and use it. ADWCleaner is a manual one time scan so not to worry about that, keep it for occasional use.

Read up on how viruses and Malware are transmitted, change your usage in light of that.

In Device Manager > Keyboards > Properties > right click > Uninstall device.
It will then auto-install the driver again, or you can scan for hardware changes.

I would use the Windows Task Manager first. Sort columns by clicking the column title, max usage at the top.

Process Explorer and Autoruns are rather too complex for most users.

Well, I've used System Mechanic for a long time, and I've never had this problem to this extent before. You're obviously smarter than I am, so I do defer to to your expertise. Is there any utility that is worth it? If you run nothing, aren't you going to fill up your hard drive with a ton of junk files? I'm not smart enough to wrap my head around that. I have read a lot of reviews and white papers and articles about utilities and all I get is more confused. Some say to use them, some say not.

I'm going to disable Bit Defender and system mechanic, and see if that solves the problem. Then I have an issue with what to use for malware and viruses? (assuming that works).

    thanks for your patience.
