    M.2 SSD Recommendation?

Have a dell xps 15 9550 laptop. It originally had a 1tb 2.5 inch 7200 rpm hard drive and 32gb m.2 ssd that came a long with it. I went to repair shop years ago and had them remove the 1tb 2.5 inch hard drive and put in an old 250gb 2.5 inch samsung ssd in it.

I want to have both this 250gb 2.5 inch ssd removed and the 32gb m.2 replaced because that way, i can put in a bigger battery in my laptop. Current laptop has 3 cell 56wh battery and want to get a 97wh battery.

I have had this laptop for few years.

Looking at amazon, they have tons of different m.2 ssd.

    samsung ssd860 evo

    crucial mx500

    WD Blue 3d

Is the samsung 970 evo the best one? Why is the crucial and the wd blue so cheap when you compare the 500gb and 1tb prices to the samsung evos? Is the wd blue ssd much slower? Tons of more reviews on the wd blue ssd and most seem to be very good.

The Samsung 970 EVO is an NVMe drive. The others are SATA.

You need to find out if your computer will boot from a NVMe drive. If it won't, you can eliminate the 970 EVO.

In your shoes, I'd probably get the cheapest of the 3 for whatever size you want. You aren't likely to notice the difference among them. Warranty might matter. Return privileges might matter. But I wouldn't get wound up in the other details.

Hi. My laptop is xps 15 9550.

Well i looked at some more reviews of the wd and i read a few more negative things compared to the samsung evo though.

Well i want to make sure the ssd doesn't have much problems in the future. So i dont mind paying more for a good one. For example i currently use a samsung ssd at the moment... it hasn't had much issues. So thats why i thought... best to stick with samsung?

How could you ever do that?

There are horror stories about all of them. Just like cars or dishwashers. So what?

As long as the SSD is compatible, buy whatever makes you worry the least.

Well i mean i don't want to get a cheap ssd because of the price... then after a short while it has tons of issues. Thus i want an ssd where its reliable and has lesser problems... thus i dont mind paying more for that. So that is why i thought.. probably better to pay more for the samsung ssd instead...

The XPS 15 9550's HM170 chipset is supposed to support NVMe PCI-E 3 X4, so no worries there.

That Crucial sells NVMe M.2 drives for that model only confirms it.

Your existing 32 GB M.2 drive is used as a cache for the other drive. I don't know whether you need to change a BIOS setting to get away from that.

Isn't the real question which drive will run the longest on 3 or 4 battery power packs?
