    Possible to hot-plug Samsung SSD?

The machine is running Win10 1903 on MSI Titan GT80 SLI.

The SSD is Samsung PM981 1TB.

I am in a situation where I might need to hot-plug the above SSD. I attempted to install Linux onto one of the SSDs, PCIe. It makes the system unbootable. I have Win10 on SSD #1 and #3, Linux was installed on #2. Not only does it make the system unbootable, my BCD entries disappear, there is something on that Linux SSD that deletes them and its own Grub bootloader takes over.

Is the Samsung PM981 resilient enough so that the power surge won't destroy it?

I need to format that drive but if I insert it, it not only makes the system unbootable but all the other drive entries disappear from BIOS and cannot be added!! It's a dead end. Or I need to find another computer that takes 2280 SSD and format it there.

If you had all 3 drives plugged in at the same time, and installed Linux correctly, The GRUB boot loader will load, and you can choose which OS to boot into.
If you want to wipe the Linux drive, on another computer download Minitool Partition Wizard Free, run the program burn a bootable version of the app using their BootMediaBuilder to a USB drive.or CD. With only the Linux drive in the computer, boot to the USB drive or CD and select the Linux drive and choose to do a Wipe, or Delete ALL Partitions on the drive so it is Unallocated Space. You then can Create an NTFS partition and Format it, if you like.
Or download GParted, Live make a bootable Live CD or USB and boot off of that to wipe the Linux drive.

I think it would need extensive configuration to chain the other drives.

    I will try the download.

"Possible to hot-plug Samsung SSD? " … Yes.

However, what you want to do is make sure you enable Hot Plug (Gigabyte boards) in the BIOS. If not you could run into problem where the drive isn't recognized until a re-boot. If Hot Plug is enabled, you re-booting is required. This should also eliminate any data corruptions.

On Gigabyte boards you'd go SATA And RST Configuration

Then chose the port and Enable Hot Plug

Exit the BIOS and save. Simple. I use to hot plug drives all the time on both HDD and SSD drives. And yes, this was with Samsung SSD drives.

My BIOS does not look anything like this. I think I have a different motherboard.

Sorry, I see now you have a laptop so, yeah, you may not have that option (enable hot swap). I should have looked at your system specs first. Sorry.

I resolved the issue but booting into gparted and wiping out the offending partitions. Then re-cloning with Macrium Reflect.
