External disk appearing twice in Explorer

    Hope someone can help me.

    I have 2 external disks - labelled M & N which I use for backups.

When they are connected however, they appear twice in Explorer

    Attachment 240106

This is very confusing especially as they are listed so close to each other - as N can appear above M! When expanded it is even more confusing.

Right clicking doesn't appear to offer any solutions to hide the "extra" entry. As I don't know what this effect is called, Googling is just about impossible.

Can anyone suggest why they are appearing twice, and whether I can hide the second entry.

    Thanks

    Colin

Sorry the attachment did not show. In fact however, Edwin's answer is precisely the solution I was looking for.

For completeness, I've hopefully attached the same jpg again so others can see the problem.

Edwin, Thanks very much. Its annoying that it is so easy when you are pointed out the answer by an expert.. Thanks again

No need to apologize. One of the Mods moved your thread shortly after you started it in the General Forum and placed it here in the Drivers and Hardware Forum, and; No one noticed? I suspect your attachment didn't survive the move.

ColMac, One of the greatest resources on TenForums is the tutorial section. Doing a search for Remove Duplicate Drives would of taken you to several pertinent results, then if you'd still be unsure which one to use, post a new thread asking for guidance.

Edwin an expert? Well he is a Guru....

I gave him reputation for posting your solution already.

Thanks for the advice. I did try Google searching for answers before posting. I am an enthusiast and I've been building my own and my families pc's for years. I had a alook on the forum, and discovered that this is only the third query I've posted since 2016. Not the sign of someone who doesn't do his own research. In this case if I had searched the exact phrase then yes I'd have found the answer. If I searched for some similar phrases, I would also have found the answer.

In this case, I couldn't think of the right search phrase. Perhaps a bit more thought might have got me there. But the forum is there for help, so I posted here.

    Apologies.

Thanks jcd1 for your considered input. It is much appreciated.

I had already posted "Reputation", the minute I applied Edwins answer, but its always good to check.

    Hi Colmac,

Apologies aren't necessary as I didn't post about the tutorial section as an admonishment. Glad to hear Edwin's suggestion worked out for you!
