Windows Wont Let Me Update Driver

I use Driver Easy to update my drivers. Today it had 2 Realtek drivers that needed updating. One updated without problem. The other won't update. What I mean to say is windows won't let me update. It says the best driver is already installed. How can I force windows to accept the new driver update?

If the driver fails, can't you just roll back to previous driver? I vaguely remember seeing that in the properties.

Are you using the premium or free version of Driver Easy?
The premium version allows you to roll back the drivers but not sure the free version does.
The drivers are Microsoft certified so that shouldn’t be the problem.
Have you restarted the PC & tried updating again?
I can only think the driver is not compatible.
You can also contact their support.

The error message you report is one produced by using Device manager to update a driver. It should not appear if you are separately downloading drivers [from, say, the OEM] and installing them by other methods.

I do not know your 'Driver easy' thing.
    - Have you downloaded the updated drivers already or does this thing merely initiate a Device manager update attempt?
    - If you have downloaded the drivers, what type of files are they [.exe, .zip, .cab, ...]

If you have not already downloaded the updated drivers then I suggest going to the OEM and downloading from there [they are likely to provide them as .exe files that you can just run in order to install them].

I heard about Driver Easy here on Ten Forums. I've updated at least 14 drivers with no problem. This one is a stumper. As you can see in the picture below, the driver is certified by Microsoft WHQL and is verified by Driver Easy. As I said, it's the only one I've had a problem with.

Can you get driver version data from Driver easy to check what it is trying to download-install so you can compare it to what Device manager says the current driver is?

Can you go to your computer / sound card OEM to see what version of RealTek HD audio driver they currently provide?

Purely out of interest, do you have a screenshot of the 'error' message [the message about the best driver already being installed]?

Hi Try3, as you can see below, one has the name Realtek Audio and the other is Realtek High Definition Audio. The one in device manager seems to have the same hardware ids and the same compatible ids as the new driver. So I guess the only difference is the name.

If there are no yellow marks in the Device Manager, you do not need to update ANY drivers, unless a device is not working properly. Newest isn't always better.
You also do not need 3rd party apps to update your drivers. If you go to the Dell Support site and type in your Service tag# or find your model, you will see drivers that are older, but they were specifically written for this hardware, and unless your devices isn't working properly, you will see no benefit to updating a driver.
However, if you have the burning desire to update your Realtek Audio driver, in the Device Manager, right click the RealTek Audio, and Uninstall it. Then run Driver Easy, and let it update to the newest Realtek driver. If it doesn't work, Roll the driver back to the previous driver that was working./

Just a follow up. I finally got the driver to install and everything sounds great.
