Thanks for all of your help. I have abandoned the fight. There had been a problem with the audio that I thought was corrected, but it returned so that convinced me to return the laptop. The tech ppl said they could correct that and diisable gestures, but after trying said it could not be done on that laptoip. I guess I will just stay away from Lenovo.

Likely a smart move. If under warranty it needs to be their problem not yours.

I don't know who else has this problem, but I ran into the same issue and had a different solution.
I have a Lenovo L340 Gaming Notebook and I heart that this is a common problem.

First I downloaded the driver package from the official website from Lenovo.
Touchpad Driver (Synaptics, Elan) for Windows 10 (64-bit) - L340-15IRH Gaming, L340-17IRH Gaming - US
I installed the driver, but it didn't help, so I tried it a different way (and spoiler alert my second attempt worked).

    Extract the files.
Then go to the decive manager, click Action -> add Legacyhardware
Choose the option for advanced users, in the next window just go with "show all devices"
Browse for your extracted driver and choose the file "SynTPFHID".
Continue to install the driver and after a restart the touchpad works normally.

At least this worked for me and I hope I can help someone with this.

When you say "the touchpad works normally" do you mean that you can disable gestures?

I mean that all gestures work, but I can't disable them.
All I can change is the sensitivity in the windows settings.
