Keyboard and mouse unresponsive in Windows but works in bios/recovery

    Hello,

I am at my wits in with whats going with my keyboard and mouse suddenly not working. It was fine a few days and now it just doesn’t do anything. The cursor is no where to be seen on screen and no keys work except light up the caps lock button. I tried every usb port and even three different usb mice and no go. Thing is whenever i am in bios or the advanced windows recovery then everything works fine but the moment it boots into windows then everything stops working. Can anyone help me please? It doesn’t work in safe mode as well. System restore does nothing so I’m on the verge of just giving up.

Can you boot into safe mode? Will they work there?
If you can try updating the mouse and keyboard drivers in the device manager.
Try booting to windows with the mouse unplugged and plugging it in after Windows has loaded.

If they work in recovery mode open a dos (cmd) window and type in sfc /scannow (it will
    take a while)
    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

If the above don't work , do you have a restore point , image or backup from before this
    happened?

Tried sfc and i get “Windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation” and Dism says “Dism does not support servicing windows pe with online option”.

Try opening Device Manager and updating the drivers for the keyboard and mouse.

Hopefully the Gurus will have some other ideas, My only other one
is one I consider a Nuclear Option, that is Resetting .
You can choose to keep files but will have to reinstall some programs.
If you had a backup or image even a restore point before this occurrence then I would suggest
you try to restore it that way.

If updating the drivers in Device Manager doesn’t help and you don’t have an image that you can restore then you can do an in place upgrade, which will keep your date and installed programs. Here are the instructions: Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade.
if you don’t regularly create backup images now is the time to consider getting started. When problems occur you can restore an image from the time before the issue occurred. It gets you back up and running quickly and in most cases with little or no data loss. Macrium Free is what most people here use.

How can Jace234 run anything if he doesn't have mouse or keyboard?
When in BIOS it use BIOS drivers. When in Recovery it use WinRE drivers.
What is missing is Windows USB drivers.

You can try to boot a Flash disk using Windows 10 Recovery Tools - Bootable Rescue Disk. Then you will have access to the installed Win 10.

    Use Dism cmd
This example is for win 7 but also work for win 10
