Suddenly Windows 10 see my dvd writer but non that much.

I have been googling to find hints about the problem I'm experiencing, but the complication has survived some fixing attempts. Here I refer to Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.17763.107] and TSSTcorp SH-222AB CD DVD writer. Product's drivers are not available on manufacturer' s web site Home - ODD Support English Toshiba- Samsung Download CenterODD Support English . Any advice will be very welcomed ! Thanks !

    STEP 1
All of a sudden, File Explorer's left panel can't see the DVD driver, but the one on the right can. See fig. 1 and fig. 2 .

By Default, the CD/DVD drives are not listed in the left panel of File Explorer. , but will be listed in the right panel.
In the Device Manager, you have 2 listings for Unita DVD/CD-Rom and Unita disco?
Expand Each one, and right click the Device and Uninstall it. Then Uninstall the Controller for AHCI for Unita,. then restart your computer. This will reinstall the driver. There are no downloaded drivers for DVD/CD rom drives as the driver is provided by the Windows OS.
If this fails, the Laser for the drive may have failed and no longer reads discs. You can easily replace the drive with a new one that you can purchase on Ebay.

Thanks for your reply. If I understand rightly your question, yes I have two listing in Device Manager.
Uninstalling didn't help. I agree on your opinion about an hardware malfunction: I overlooked it because the writer is brand new, but, following your advice, I have just purchased online another one. As soon as I get it I will come here to report the outcome of the replacement. By the way, is it possible a motherboard's bios malfunction ?

is it possible a motherboard's bios malfunction ?
Probably not,.The drive is being recognized by the Bios and Windows.
As an experiment, Enable the Hidden Built in Admin and Sign out as you and sign in as the Built in Admin. See if the drive reads discs. If not, try it in another computer. If it doesn't read discs in any User Profile or Computer, it is faulty and needs to be replaced.

I'm grateful for your assistance: I have replaced the malfunctioning writer and now all goes smoothly. I wrongly thought that a writer could be or healthy or totally blown out. Nevertheless, I'm curious to see what happens connecting it to another PC ...
