DriverStore Help - Can't delete duplicate drivers

I noticed in DriverStoreExplorer that I have somehow ended up with two identical drivers...prosetextension is what it's called. Obviously by Intel. They are the same version as well. I tried to delete them, or at least one, and both are unable to be deleted as both are allegedly in use. I thought that it was either my Wireless adapter or lBuetooth adapter but after deleting them I still couldn't delete the duplicate driverstore folders. Eventually, using Unlocker I was able to delete the folders but there were a lot of entries in the registry associated with each that could not be deleted, and DriverStoreExplorer now showed them as "Unknown" and still undeletable. I ended up doing a system restore and got everything back to what it was. Is there a program that will tell me what is using them...and their associated oemXX.inf files?

I did...that didn't work either. I think the drivers are actually being used by "something" but I don't know how to find out what it is. It "should" be something by Intel as that is the only company I know that uses "PROSET." However, I should've been able to remove at least one of the driverstore folders after uninstalling my Intel wireless adapter and Bluetooth...both the software (i.e. Windows Programs) and in Device Manager...making sure that the uninstall software box was checked. Something installed and is using them...I just need to find out how to determine that.

If something is using it then you shouldn't get rid of it as that "something" will not work any more. If there's an .inf file in the folder you can open it with notepad and see inside what it's for.

It's possible it is the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility, this was installed on my system without my knowledge when I installed the drivers for Intel wireless/Bluetooth.
There is a service running from this utility that you need to disable I believe before you can delete the folder. At least that is what I had to do.
It is however possible that in your situation it isn't the Extreme Tuning Utility.

If it is the ETU, then you can use Programs & Features (or better yet, Revo Uninstaller) to get rid of it, and follow up with an associated registry cleanup. That should take care of all the "dangly bits," so to speak.

Thanks but not ETU...the Intel products installed are graphics drivers, chipset drivers, rapid storage technology, and optane pinning extensions (installs w/ RST). This is on a Dell XPS 13 ultrabook from a few years ago. However, my desktop also has the graphics, chipset, RST, and optane installed and that PROSET extension was never installed/does not show anywhere.

Having investigated my system (Desktop PC) the PROSET drivers are listed as Intel Bluetooth/wireless suite. This makes sense as my desktop has Bluetooth/wireless on the motherboard.

What you may be seeing is the installation folder and the backup install folder.

Up-front: I believe the bottom line up-front is to contact DriverStoreExplorer to address what you want to do.
--- DriverStoreExplorer is in control of how most of your drivers are managed.
--- My opinion if it matters is Why is DriverStoreExplorer being used?
I didn’t think of entering this up-front until I had written was is included below. I left that information in anyway.
--- I hope you will find at least some of it informative.

--- Very good explanation and it’s good that a system restore worked for you.
--- Do you also do system image backups?

--- This is in explaining that Disk cleanup Device driver packages did not help in removing them.
--- I don’t see that as unusual since DriverStoreExplorer is in control and isn’t subject to Disk cleanup management.

--- That is on your Dell XPS 13 ultrabook from a few years ago.
--- Do you know if Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software was originally on the Dell XPS 13 ultrabook from a few years ago?
You also have a “desktop also has the graphics, chipset, RST, and optane installed and that PROSET extension was never installed/does not show anywhere”
--- We don’t know if it’s a Dell as other vendors also use Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software.
--- Are you using DriverStoreExplorer also on the desktop?

Here is information on Intel PROSet/Wireless WiFi Software from Should I remove it?
