HD size (removed from USB external) shows badly wrong

I removed a 3TB Seagate HD from its external box as I wanted to use it internally. Have done this 3 or 4 trimes before with no problems (yeah, warranty, sure...); this was sort of surplus to requirements. However, on installing internally, it is now no longer 3TB, but 746.52Gb!

Anyone? No room to expand it in Disk Management - what happened?

    Cheers

    Jeremy

Hello, if possible you can take a screenshot to show us the disk layout in Windows Disk Management. By the way, the posts sent by jumanji may help you.

    Hello JeremyP99,
Have you tried to update the Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver?
In some cases, the connection method may be the culprit. You can try to connect it via different methods. Try both USB and SATA. Good luck!

My first reference in post #2: How to Fix: New 3TB Drive Only Shows 746GB

"A study saying that Intel® Rapid Storage Technology (RST) version of 10.0.0.1046 is the culprit behind the 746GB available of the 3TB drive issue.
For 3TB drive support, one should look to Intel RST 10.1 and newer. However, before you upgrade Intel® Rapid Storage Technology driver to the latest version, you had better know more information about RST."

The second reference: Fixed: 3TB External Hard Drive Suddenly Becomes 746GB Unallocated

"Solution 4: Upgrade Intel® Rapid Storage Technology driver

Intel® Rapid Storage Technology is a program developed by Intel. The question is your Intel RST version of 10.0.0.1046 is the culprit behind the 746GB available of the 3TB drive issue. Thus, for 3TB drive support, you should upgrade to Intel® Rapid Storage Technology 10.1 version and newer.
So, here you should download the newest version of Intel’s Rapid Storage Technology drivers from Intel’s site."
You must try all solutions. In fact most users' problem on this count was solved by updating the RST drivers. My fault that I did not emphazise it, but am glad to note that Yvette222 sounded the bugle .

If your system uses RST driver find out what version it is and update it to the latest version.
