386-20 with a 40mhz green upgrade (plugged on over cpu) 8 megs ram 60 gig hd manage to
run win 95 on it . Not fast but stable.

If I would been able to foreseen all this meltdown/spectre/etc fiasco, I would have got myself a Ryzen processor instead of overpriced Intel.

If i had known on the Meltdown, spectre issues in September 2017, I would've purchased a newer AMD Ryzen system, even if First Gen Ryzen at the time, but sadly didn't know on the issues at the time.

Prior to that used AMD based systems since 2003, Decided September 2017 well i got the money, so i'll try an Intel based system. It runs very well for all my needs, but still have to wonder if all the microcode updates for Intel Processor, the bios updates, and such reduced performance a bit or not, can't really tell for sure though

AMD up to the Bulldozers which IMO were not much better than the Phenom II 1090T, I was using at the time and in some aspects worse! so went Intel, however the Ryzens looked interesting so I knocked up a Ryzen 5 1600 rig, was pleasantly surprised especially when it was beating my i7- 6700K on multicore bench marks.....OK it does have 12 threads, And the i7 is king on single core. However next new build when I get round to it will more than likely be a high end third generation Ryzen, given the issues with Intel that keep appearing.
Phenom II rig is still working reasonably well on Win10 1903 with the aid of a 6GB GTX1060.

I've been using an AMD FX-8350 for about five years now and I have never had any problems running anything. I'm thinking that my next system, which will happen soon, will have one of the new Ryzen CPUs in it, but I have to do some more research.

I was particularly pissed when I found out that my eight core FX-8350 isn't a true eight core CPU. It has four cores and four logical cores, not eight true cores as advertised at the time I bought it. It sort of left a bad taste in my mouth regarding AMD, so I've been buying Intel machines at work for the past few years. I really don't notice much difference between my i7 at work and my 8350 at home, to be perfectly honest. Obviously, I don't game at work, but gaming performance at home is respectable for the games that I play. In benchmarking, however, I do notice a big difference between the i7 and the 8350, particularly with the memory performance.

I'll be interested to see how the new Ryzen stacks up, but I am definitely going to research exactly how many cores I am paying for. I don't mind hyperethreading, but at least the company should be honest about which cores are logical and which are not.

Maybe I should throw this out and see what their opinion is. I have had many system both AMD & Intel. The big difference that I notice is that AMD processors seem to run (Normal Operations) at much higher temperatures than the Intel devices but the AMD cpu's have much higher thermal temps before thermal events than the same Intel system. I have had desk tops with both AMD & Intel and never noticed the increased running temps of a AMD Processor. I also have had several Laptops with both processors but my latest AMD HP laptop runs much higher run temps then its predecessor which was a Intel system (Mid range celeron). This hp laptop has a "AMD Quad-Core A8-4500M" processor, again mid range nothing fancy, but I have seen it exceed 90 C. when doing a feature update ? I also have a Intel Tablet with a "Atom(TM) x5-Z8350" a bit slower, but it never get anything above 40 C. and it doesn't have any ventilation ports ???

So AMD guys what do you agree, or do I just have a lemon ? (Note that all air ports are free of dust on the laptop and it does blow a lot of HOT AIR).

Yeah that is what upset me when i found out my former AMD FX 8310 wasn't a true 8 Core as advertised.

My main reason for picking for my new system in September 2017 to go for an Intel I7 7700, Nvidia 1050 Graphics (upgrading soon) and 16gb of DDR4, (Memory was same as AMD System) do notice better performance with my Intel system, No lag in Online gaming, (old AMD FX 8310 video was R7240 (may have played a role in performance

Anyhow if and when I do a full build upgrade again, I may look at a Ryzen, but not sure yet

Keep in mind that you are comparing two low power (single core, maybe dual core for the Celeron, you didn't specify) Intel CPUs with a quad core CPU. The quad is definitely going to run hotter than those two.

I have the same situation with my AMD quad core laptop. It runs waaaay too hot and will even shut down on occasion due to heat, especially if the Radeon graphics card is enabled. It can easily exceed 90C (at which point it shuts down) even doing moderate work. Gaming is impossible on this one, though gaming on a laptop is rather pointless, anyway. They just don't have good enough performance for me to justify using one over my desktop for gaming or serious number crunching/graphics work.

When building a new PC. I've always bought the best price /performance CPU / motherboard combination for my budget. My last build was Intel but I've built several AMD based systems previously with no problems.

My first computer was made by Xerox (if I remember correctly.) CPU was a Zilog Z80, 64 KB RAM. Twin 8" floppy drives, double-sided, double density, 1.2 MB each. Yup, no typos in that sentence.
