    Improvised Cooler for Lappy

Updating to 1903 and the temps were rising so I whipped up an improvised cooler. HD temps dropped 12 degrees in a just a few minutes.

    Isn't That a tad unstable?
Hitting it the wrong way will send it to the floor.
Aren't The cooling vents on a Dell on the side?
Better to have it blow through those and keep you cool at the same time

Frequently Notebooks will have vent slots on the bottom for intake with the fan exhausting out slots on the edge/s of the case, mine do. The smallest with SSDs may not have the same. The slots on the bottom are the reason one doesn't have them on cloth such as a pillow or blanket which can get sucked up to block the intake.

only had 3 cans of soup, but seriously most of the weight was in the back with the larger battery pack. At that point it was running a Macrium image so all I was using was the wireless mouse. Yes the vents are on the side but this dropped the disk temps from 125 to 110 in just a few minutes.

i normally use it with 4 small wood blocks under the feet to give it a little extra air but downloading and installing 1903, doing a dism cleanup and sfc scannow and then a full image backup got the temps up to 125 so I wanted to give it a burst of quick cooling.

I also have the same problem. I bought one of the laptop coolers. Works pretty good and helps getting the heat out.

Hi storageman and thanks for the tip. I’ve though about a cooler but the lappy is pretty old and my wife only uses it for occasional presentations, so I decided not to spend the money. Honestly, if it died tomorrow I wouldn’t feel bad.
I was bored and was really was just goofing around seeing what I could piece together with available junk. Worked pretty well for 0 cost and hopefully I entertained everyone here. Sometimes it’s just fun to think outside the box and be silly.
