I think that's correct. I can stream media files to my expensive 2012 Sony TV from File Explorer but the Connect feature doesn't operate nor can you cast from Edge. All works fine on my cheap 2018 LG TV. I concluded that the later TVs are likely to have the required Miracast support bit not necessarily older TVs.

Hmmm. Then maybe I am confused about the protocol it uses to wirelessly connect with my computer. I just know that it easily connects wirelessly with my Windows 10 laptop. I just select "connect to a wireless display" on my Windows laptop in settings, it immediately "sees" and lists the Samsung TV as an option, I click on it, and in a moment the TV is acting as a display for the laptop - works perfectly. But when I do the exact same thing with my Windows 10 desktop, it will also connect to the TV, but the display picture is all messed up. Any other thoughts on what I can do to make the desktop do the same thing the laptop does?

That would be that your laptop has different capabilities than the desktop.
