Why does WU downgrade my graphic driver?

    Hello.
I'm using a Nvidia GTX 1080Ti graphic card, and about a week ago there arrived a new WHQL-driver 430.86.
But 1. of June there came a hotfix driver 430.97, that I installed. But now Windows Update downgrade my driver again to ver 430.86. Why is that? I know the hotfix driver is not WHQL-certified, but that has never been an issue before.

How do I stop W.U. from downgrading my graphic-driver?

Hi, you can hide ('block') a particular Windows update:
Hide or Show Windows Updates in Windows 10

provided you are careful with the sequence that triggers it and then are able to hide it.

You could also consider using a free tool such as Windows Update Minitool (free) - WUMT- whch allows you to hide an update listed in the right pane:

There's also a tutorial which allows you to disable ALL driver updates via WU, but that is less desirable.

However it's possible Nvidia is doing its own update check- in which case you may be able to disable that.

You can check if the unwanted driver update was delivered by WU by inspecting your Update History (bottom for drivers)

I think that WU will only offer WHQL drivers and does not see that hot-fix as a legit driver.

Use Option 3 or 4 in this Tutorial to stop ALL driver updates.

I guess you're right #3, but hotfix drivers never caused a problem before, and Nvidia as launched a lot of them over time

I solved it with the link from #2 Hide or Show Windows Updates in Windows 10
