Printing problem - port in use

Printing problem - port in use-screenshot-07_06_2019-19_07_54.pngSince changing my desktop computer to a laptop, I have been having problems printing to my Canon TS8250 multi-function printer. Several times a day, I receive a message that the printer port is in use when I try to print something. When it occurs, the only way to clear it seems to be to reboot my computer, after which the document prints normally.

I have been on to Canon support and so far, they have been unable to come up with a solution. I tried re-installing the printer drivers as they suggested, but it didn't make any difference. My printer is connected to the network by Wi-Fi, as is my computer. My daughter, who also has a laptop connected to the same network, was able to print without any problems while the port busy message was being displayed on my computer. The signal is very strong to all devices as we are within a few feet at most from the router (my computer is only about a foot away from it).

I'm going to attempt to upload a few screenshots to show what is happening.Printing problem - port in use-screenshot-06_06_2019-08_58_07.pngAttachment 236435

    Hi,
    Give this a try:
Go to Settings, Network &Internet, then WiFi, click "Manage known networks", click any unknown networks(neighbours') and select "Forget" leaving only your WiFi.

I've checked and the only known network in the list is the one I am currently using.

You could try removing the Printer installation from your PC, then do a fresh setup, I think it's a minor glitch as your printer works after the reboot.

Thanks, but I had already tried that. The good news is that I have found the source of the problem - it was Bitdefender Total Security. Even if I disabled all the modules in the security suite, it still didn't solve the problem, but as soon as I uninstalled it, everything started working the way it should. Just to check, I re-installed Bitdefender and immediately the problem returned. So I've uninstalled it and replaced it with Kaspersky Security Cloud.

Just an update. Someone else on another forum advised me to create a new standard TCP/IP port and use that instead as "you will always have problems using the WSD port." That did work for a while, even with Bitdefender installed, but recently I have found that the print queue is not being cleared. The strange thing is, my daughter's Windows 10 laptop is configured in the same way as mine, i.e., using the TCP/IP port I created and that works perfectly, so I am at a loss to discover why my computer doesn't function in the same way, and we both have Bitdefender installed at the moment (I uninstalled Kaspersky because it kept crashing on my Android devices). I have tried deleting and re-installing the printer using drivers from the Canon web site, but the problem continues. Any ideas as to what else I can try?

I’ve just uninstalled Bitdefender again and that has cleared the problem, so it looks like I shall have to look for an alternative antivirus product.

    Just use Windows Defender.

As stated, You do not need a 3rd party Anti-virus program. Windows 10 comes with Windows Defender. It is much improved over past versions. It gets updated with Windows Update and it has a little footprint. Did I mention it was Free?

Canon support weren't much use on this issue. I provided a link to this thread, but they said they couldn't open it for security reasons. Then came the following advice:-

...If the issue remains, please make sure that the frequency of your network is 2.4 ghz, as this is the only frequency the printer can detect and connect to. If your router uses both 2.4ghz and 5 ghz frequencies, please disable the 5ghz as it may cause misccommunication issues. [my emphasis]Also, make sure that you are not using boosters or extenders...
