Try CrystalDiskInfo8_1_0 It's a portable (don't need to install) and will tell you everything about the disk.

    @dsscottage

I am waiting to see what CrystalDiskInfo finds. Post a screenshot. Also a screenshot of Windows Disk Management.

How to Upload and Post Screenshots and Files at Ten Forums

Carefully disconnect the Secondary drive D: ( Both the Power Cable and SATA cable) and report whether your system boots easily without struggling.

Answers to the following questions may also help.

    History of your Tower PC:

    1. How old is your ASUS CM6870 Tower PC? Is it still under warranty? What BIOS -UEFI or Standard BIOS?
    2. What was the OS in it when bought?
    3. Did it come with Samsung 1TB 860 EVO SSD and ASUS(??) 2TB HDD?
    4. You have listed Windows 10 Pro, Windows 10 Home and Windows 7 as your OS. All of these on your Samsung SSD???
    5. List the other Desktops/Laptops you have access to with their OS.
( In case the 2TB HDD remains inaccessible on your ASUS Tower,I may perhaps ask you to take out the 2TB HDD, plug it in as an internal drive on another Desktop or as an external drive in a casing on a laptop. Possible? )

If I need any other info, it will come in my post after your reply .

I ran CrystalDiskInfo and it only found and reported on the C:drive (SSD). It did not see the D: drive (HDD).

I suspect that it can report on the D: drive since Windows cannot see it.

I've posted the results of CrystalDiskInfo in my previous post. Since it didn't see the D: drive, I suspect a screen shot won't do any good.

I'm up to my neck in other issues today and it will take me some time to disconnect the D: drive and reinstall it in another system. I'll do this tomorrow and post the results.

    In the meantime:
    1. The ASUS CM6870 is about 7 years old and is not under warranty. The BIOS is an American Megatrends 0708 12/25/2012.
    2. The original OS was Win 8 Home.
    3. I subsequently installed the Samsung SSD and did a fresh install of Win 10 Pro. The HDD was formatted and demoted to a secondary drive. It has worked perfectly for a few years.
    4. The ASUS now has Win 10 Pro installed.
    5. A second desktop has Win 7 installed. My laptop has Win 10 Home installed. In my closet, I also have 2 much older desktops, one with Win 7, the other with Win XP.

I'll dig the old Win 7 desktop out of the closet and try to install the 2TB HDD and report the results tomorrow.

Absolutely no problem. Do it at your leisure and time. ( I am not running away ) But why not on the second Desktop running Windows 7? ( Why on a old desktop consigned to the attic/basement? Anyway shouldn't matter as long as the rats and cats had not eaten it away and it is still functional )

I have been following this thread from the beginning and I don't see or have failed to see any CrystalDiskinfo in any of your previous posts.

What gives hope in this case is the chkdsk log you posted which showed no bad sectors. Thanks to Megahertz.

Note: A loose/ failed SATA cable can make your drive inaccessible. When you open the case, check that the SATA cable is connected securely at both ends. It may also be worthwhile to change the cable with a new one and then check whether the drive is accessible.

I just previously posted that CrystalDiskInfo only saw the C: drive; therefore, didn't see the benefit in posting a log or screen shot. Nonetheless, I'm attaching both a screen shot and log.

As stated, open the case and check the cabling, make sure the Data cable and the power cable are set to the back of the drive securely. Follow the data cable and make sure it is secure in the motherboard. Turn the computer on and put your ear next to the drive, do you hear it spinning?
Boot into Setup (Bios) here under System Information, it should list all of your drives. Is your secondary drive listed?
Try switching the Data cable. Try putting the Data cable in another slot on the Motherboard. Try switching the power plug. If the HDD is not listed in the Bios, Then Crystal Disk info or any other software will not see it. If you can't hear it spinning and it's not listed in the Bios, then the drive needs to be replaced.

If you have any chance to have your disk back, follow Jumanji's instructions.
    He is THE disk guru.
