Any Difference between these two SSDs?

Any Difference between WD10SPZX and MZ-76P1TOBW?

    The long story
My wife has a new Laptop (Dell G3 17-3779) that lists two drives under "This Computer". The boot drive which is 100gb, and an empty drive that is 900gb. I concluded it was an SSHD that had two partitions. Instead of just shifting Particition sizes, I decided to replace the drive with a True SSD (Looking online, Ive seen great reviews on SSHDs, but Ive had Horrible experiences myself). I opted for the Samsung 1TB V-NAND SSD 860 Pro (MZ-76P1TOBW). I got it in the mail, opened up the laptop, swapped out the drives, plugged in the Win10 Installation USB I setup ahead of time, and turned the system on. To my surprise, the system booted right back into windows, with user info and programs still intact. Like a dumb donkey, my information was based on assumptions. The two drives were not two partitions, but two completely separate SSDs. I now understand what type of SSD the actual boot drive is, and have a 500gb replacement on the way to have larger capacity.

But here's what I also noticed that leads me to this post:
As I said, I made the assumption that the 1TB drive that came with the laptop was an SSHD, based off hardware IDs I misread in Hardware manager and jumping to conclusions when I got a mere glance of it after opening the LT the first time.
When I got the Samsung and swapped out the drives, I looked up the model number which was
Western Digital - WD10SPZX. It looks like it has all the same specs as the Samsung.

Getting to the point - The Question
Is the Western Digital WD10SPZX a true SSD? and is it the same quality and specs as the Samsung MZ-76P1TOBW?

Just out of curiosity, I searched. I'm confused.

The WD10SPZX is a spinner, not an SSD. https://www.wd.com/products/internal...ue-mobile.html

    1TB, 128 MB cache, 5400RPM.

Is WD10SPZX the true part number?

That is the Western Digital Model Number and it truly is a 2.5" laptop Drive. Sata 6, 128mb cache. Its also is NOT a SSHD. But I also believe that the Laptop has a M.2 Drive, as stated in the options here -> Access Denied

That is the reason it booted up without the 1TB drive. The Dell spec said you can get it with a 128gb M.2 which would result in about 100gb available. I would leave the M.2 untouched and replace the 1TB spinner with the Samsung 1TB SSD (Because since the spinner is only a 5400rpm drive, it will struggle with large files after the cache is filled up). That machine will run circles around most laptops in that config (It certainly won't be lacking performance there) and the price is really good.

Thank you! I guess the thing that was throwing me off is that I still have terms stuck in my head where "Hard Drive" is an umbrella term. So when Western Digital used the term "Hard Drive" I was stuck thinking that term had no baring on the "type" of hard drive. But I guess if it says "Hard Drive" its a spinner drive, so it needs to say SSD or Solid-State for it to be so.

Thank you both for the clarification and your help. Ill keep the Samsung SSD and still plan on swapping out the M.2 as well when it comes today. My wife is a photographer and dabbles in graphics art, so you can never have too much space lol.

marked it a solved before your response, figuring that would "close" it. Is there a seperate function to close it that Im not seeing?

Only mods can do that I think - marking a thread solved doesn't close it.

By the way you could consider getting a USB -> SATA cable and use the Western Digital for backups. Shame to let it go to waste.
