Device Manager > Print Queues Empty

    Hi all

I have a friend who wanted help to install his USB printer, but after over a stupid hour of trying to get it to work and even detected it either came up with print was error and wont print or print was paused, eventually I went to check Printer spooler to clear it out and also ofc to restart it.

That unfortunately did nothing so I went into device Manager I saw printer HP 8150 on hp 8100 series drivers BUT all the other icons under Print queues were empty like Fax>Microsoft print to pdf>Microsoft XPS Document writer etc etc, were not there.

How or where should I start to resolve this issue, any windows repair tool that can do it, or can program&features and add remove windows programs Printers unblock it restart and tick it on again, or is there any other way I might be missing.

Thanks for all replies and ideas

    Kind regards

print queues are the entries (ordered rows) that should be inside print spooler to illustrate the order of printing for batched print jobs .

now print to pdf or fax etc. are virtual devices installed to receive print jobs just like a physical printer then do their processing with the printed document received .

now that is cleared your inquiry is a little vague , are you suffering that the spooler is empty of jobs ? or that you lost the virtual devices like print to pdf or fax ? or is it that your newly installed printer doesnt send any jobs to spooler ?

    Hi nightmayor

    Thx for your info

I've received many weird issues. First that the printer is error . printer is paused and even it went through printing queue but nothing started to print.

I brought my laptop today with exactly same win 10 updates and all I connected it with USB cable did a try print and it worked so it might be something with the Windows or something else and yes ive restarted print spooler cleared out the queue as well but still no go.

The one thing I cant solve in device manager is the hp print device that comes out with a ? Mark so something is wrong there.

Hope this gives you abit more information to help me with this issue.

One more thing I did scan disk and also sfc scan but found no error there and I'm currently in safe mode running tweaking.com Windows repair tool so I will know more tomorrow.

Otherwise last resort might be reinstalling Windows I guess.

    Kind regards

A ? in Device Manager, usually means the driver is incorrect. Did you go to the HP Download site HP Software and Driver Downloads for HP Printers | HP(R) Customer Support type in your model# and download the latest driver?

    Hi spunk

    Thx for your reply
I did that as well I also before that installed a management hp tool that removes all existing hp drivers as I thought one might be faulty or corrupt inf file. But again met with problems. The printer is shown as a photoamart 8100 series "8150" is what it really is .

I print it goes through the printer queue I see it saying printing very fast the queue clears and no print.

So I'm abit stuck gonna go to him again in a couple of hours and see if the tweaking tool did any help. Maybe something was already wrong when he got it or maybe Win installation went wrong somewhere.

Go to Device Manager,. right click the ? and choose Uninstall. Unplug the USB cable from the computer end and restart the computer. When the computer comes back up, plug in the USB cable to a Different USB port. Be sure you are not plugging this into a USB Hub or Extender as that weakens the signal. Also, plug the power cable to the printer directly into the wall socket and not a power strip or extension cord as this may diminish the power as well, and see how that goes.

    Hi spunk again

Ive tried this except for the power cord, but as it was working on my laptop so should it on his, anyways.

Thanks for the info, did it all still no go, so I went through a clean windows install, same issue hp print device in device manager comes up with a ? mark , In printers it says Unspecified hp 8150, I ran troubleshooter and here comes the kicker, its telling me that the usb 2 printer is not compatible with usb 3 port wich we all know is BS as usb is backwards compatible.

I stuck the cable into my laptop again just to check and from there It worked without any issues, so best guess is either to downgrade to win 8.1 for him or by a newer printer, its just so silly its a printer not some databse where u need to handle alot of codes, if noone has any more suggestions Ill stop on here and try win 8.1 , as Ive hade same issue with my bluetooth with windows 10 were I did all kinds of things and it did not work BUT downgrading back to windows 8.1 solved that issue for me.

It might be the same for him.

Again thanks all for help and info, if any more ideas much appreciated.

    Kind Regards
    Psy

This sadly IS true. Some older devices do not work in USB 3.0 ports, even though it is supposed to be backward compatible. Have you tired the printer in the 2.0 port?
