What is DDR (Double Data Rate) Memory and SDRAM Memory

You memory/RAM is fine. Seems most here are forgetting that the first D in DDR stands for double (the rest being Data and Rate). Another nice chart to help explain it here,

If in doubt you can check the actual speed by typing less quotes "wmic MEMORYCHIP get BankLabel, Capacity, DeviceLocator, MemoryType, TypeDetail, Speed
BankLabel Capacity DeviceLocator MemoryType Speed TypeDetail" in a command window.

Hello, yes I've just checked it, it is showing 1866 as Speed in Command Prompt.
Guess that's correct, it's simply misreported in Task Manager as 933 MHz.

There seems to be a presumption that Task Manager is presenting some new info from the 1903 update, but that is definitely wrong as this info is also there in the 1809 update. This is from my backup desktop still running ver 1809....

CPU-Z. shows the same info (on 1903 main rig). Since the RAM is dual channel, 2 x 1665 = 3330 (roughly 3333Mhz) which is what the RAM is rated at....

At the end of the day, I find it curious that both CPU-Z and Task Manager shows one thing, but the OP is showing something else using command prompt. Something is definitely wrong, and I doubt it's a Windows issue.

BTW this is mine, which is consistent across all 3 measuring apps...

With that, I still feel the OP needs to check his RAM. And I still didn't get an answer to my question... how many RAM modules does the OP physically have installed???

It says how modules many in post 3..........

"1 slot is used because this is a single 8GB DDR3 RAM. I have AsRock 970M Pro3 Rev 2 motherboard, CPU is AMD FX 8370. There are 4 RAM slots in this motherboard."

If that's the case, then yeah, they're running in single mode at 933 as reported by both CPU-Z and Task Manager. The OP might also review the motherboard's instructions as to how modules are needed to dual channel. I'm 99.999 percent sure the board will say two modules.

I've never seen that command line thing before. Thanks.

Interestingly, the command line shows my RAM at 3000 Mhz. Task manager, 1500 MHz. CPU-Z, 1500 MHz (approximately). That's under Win10 X64 1903. My motherboard is AMD, using the X470 chipset. It only supports dual channel, and I have a pair of identical DIMMs in the appropriate slots for that.

I doubt that the reported RAM frequency has anything to do with the number of memory channels, but I can't swear to it. I certainly never saw 4X frequency on my old Intel system with an X99 chipset (quad channel RAM).

Ok, so I checked my BIOS settings and the motherboard does report 1866 MHz on Auto. So I manually selected 1866 MHz in the BIOS settings. But Windows 10 Task Manager still reports 933 MHz.

This is after the 1903 update and it is not a hardware fault or coincidental. Hardware issue to arise exactly after a Windows update is laughable...

I also tried resetting BIOS settings to default and that also showed the same Speed on Task Manager. So it is simply a misreport in 1903. Maybe Windows 10 is misreporting DDR3 RAM modules but is accurate for DDR4?

I only have 1 RAM stick installed of 8GB DDR3 Kingston HyperX Fury. If this is just cosmetic, I don't really care what it shows on Task Manager. Just wanted to be sure of that for the benefit of the doubt.

Nope. My RAM is DDR4, and the clock frequency is reported, not the effective frequency (2X).

As far as I know, the behavior of DDR4 is very similar to DDR3 or DDR2.

I'm pretty sure that you don't have a performance problem.

Task Manager is essentially reading the RAM at it's double rated speed where CPU-Z is reading in as dual channel so 2 x 1500 would be 3000. That's the simple answer :)

Yes it would depending on board design. Most motherboards require certain RAM install configurations and this would be shown in the owner's manual. It's why I asked the OP to review his.
