3 different SATA controllers on my m/board. How do I ...

I have an old ASUS P9 motherboard (which I may need to replace soon.) The ASUS manual lists 8 SATA ports. 6 with an Intel controller, and 2 with a Marvell controller which is for data drives only. I think I know my own system, and there are no ports beyond the ones on the motherboard.

In Device Manager, I found 3 different Standard SATA AHCI Controllers. Using the Details tab under Properties, I found the Hardware ID of each. That hardware ID includes the PCI Vendor ID, so I determined that I have controllers by

    • Intel
    • Marvell
    • ASMedia

So what is this ASMedia controller doing?

Is there any way to create a list of controllers and the drives they control?

Yes, at the top of the device manager, select View, then devices by connection. That will show what is connected to what.

Gee, how come I didn't think of that. Yes, I was able to find all the PCI controllers, but I couldn't see which drives were physically connected to each controller.
