Can't get Windows 10 Autoplay to work

I am a new user of Win10 as I am setting up a computer for our church. I like Win10 so far, but cannot make autoplay work. I searched online and tried several things, but to no avail. I even started Regedit, but there was no key (NoDriveTypeAutoRun) present in the directory that it was supposed to be in (probably the root of my problem). I also checked Services and found that Shell Hardware Detection was active and set to automatic.
Any ideas how to fix this?
Forgot to add that I went to Device Mgr to check if the DVD drive had the current driver. It did.
Also, when I put a DVD in the drive, I don't get the popup that asks what I want to do. I did get the popup the first time I tried this and all it said was, "Take no action", but that doesn't even pop up anymore. In fact, here is a link to all the things I have tried (all to no avail):

Hi - reading that article it does say 'if it exists' and that if it doesn't probably a good thing. Doesn't in either case in mine.

Some Win 10 builds back I found I had to write a little polling loop to have Autoplay work for DVDs. What is your Win 10 build?

Sadly it's still not a forum requirement so we have to ask so often. Win key + r, winver

Does autoplay work for other USB devices?

My Win10 is Version 1809 (OS build 17763.529)
My DVD drive is a SATA drive and is plugged into one of the SATA ports on the MB.
I plugged a USB stick with an MP4 on it, in the USB port and the video auto starts. Now if I could just get the DVD drive to do that!

That sounds very much the problem I had with DVDs. This PC has no DVD drive so I don't have that loop handy- I'm travelling for a week still. I had thought the issue resolved in Windows but I haven't paid particular attention, and rarely use DVDs now.

    But I posted it here:
Why won't Win10 actually auto play disks?

Have you also checked the Control Panel Autoplay options?

I checked the previous thread of yours plus I checked my control panel. As I see it (and your old thread pointed out) there is no choice for removable drive. The only choice is to "take no action" or search for a DVD app. BTW, I tried another app and that did not work either. I also tried your Autohotkey routine, and that didn't work either. I am really frustrated.

Perhaps you might be lucky if you upgrade to 1903..

If by DVD you mean movies in DVD format, Windows 10 doesn't have native support for it. Must use 3rd party program like VLC etec.

True, but even without VLC it should be be possible to have Autoplay display the files on the disk, but with a player installed you should find you have more autoplay options for the medium.

I have WMP, but that didn't work. I installed VLC and now when Autoplay window opens up I get a line that says "play with VLC". So that fixed it for me. Still not sure why WMP did not work. I associated all the video extensions to WMP, but now had to switch them to VLC.

WMP doesn't support DVD movie format on W10.
