M.2 SSD selection for Lenovo V310-15isk

Hello to everyone in this nice forum. I have a Lenovo V310-15isk and my system supports dual drive M.2 and 2,5". Now i have a 2.5 Samsung 850 evo and I am thinking to place back the 1TB 2.5" factory drive and for SSD install an M.2 2280 one. The system supports either M.2 SATA or PCIe NVME 3.0 x2. If I install a PCIe drive am I really going to see any difference or I will just pay some more money? I am consider WD Blue SN500 500gb in that case.

Additionally, do I have to format the drive leaving some space unallocated for BitLocker utilization?

    Thanks in advance

Not knowing what your needs are, there are 2 reasons to do what your suggesting. 1- Increase performance. Installing a "M.2 SSD / PCIe 3.0 x 2" drive will increase the overall performance of your system. But since you would be moving from an installed SSD (Sata6 drive), you would probably NOT notice the performance improvement. If you measured it, I would guess there would be a +5% overall performance boost.
The second reason would be for additional storage. Here you would move your OS + programs to the M.2 drive which would free that space up on your current SSD giving you the full 1TB of space.
    Choice is yours.

thank you Storageman for your reply. I believe that since this SN500 drive has similar 4K random read/write speed with a top SATA drive (like the 850 evo which I currently have) the speed difference that I will notice will be small or even not at all. I don't play games I just need simething to multitask. So probably a M.2 sata like WD Blue 3D or Crucial MX500 can do the job...

Crucial.com lists only SATA M.2 drives for this laptop.

The spec sheet for it says PCI-E 3.0 X2. The NVME M.2 drives I'm familiar with at the moment tend to be PCI-E X4. I have an old Plextor PCI-E X2 drive, but it's not NVME.

    A bit worrisome.
