Issues with Windows Update-pushed Realtek SD Card Reader Driver.

Hello! I'm not sure if this belongs here or the Windows Update section, but here goes.

I have a USB 3.0 front panel card reader installed in my computer, an HP MCR15IN1-U2U3, attached to an add-in USB 3.0 PCIe card. It's based on the Realtek RTS5341 chip. Recently, I had a "Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - USB" driver update come through Windows Update. The update changed the generic mass storage slot icon to Realtek's various icons. Additionally, the reader has become very unstable, disconnecting when trying to transfer files. Unfortunately, I'm not able to roll back the driver in device manager as it shows as an entirely new device! It also doesn't show up in add/remove programs. I've attached a couple of screenshots showing the update and device manager. Any ideas on how to get my card reader functional again without reinstalling?!

Consider a system restore to a date that predates the problems:
System Restore Windows 10

Then turn off Windows updates of non-Microsoft drivers:
Enable or Disable Driver Updates in Windows Update in Windows 10

I have that a try, but unfortunately the card reader is seen as a new device entirely, and thus the "Roll Back" button is grayed out. I've already tried removing the device, and letting windows re-detect it, and I get the same symptoms.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I was hoping there was a slightly less drastic solution, but that may be my only option.

Can't you uninstall the device, including checking the box to remove the driver?

You'd then need to hide the particular update (see my amended post above) - not all driver updates.

I did try uninstalling the device, but there is no checkbox to remove the driver. I just end up back where I currently am when it detects the devices again, picking the broken driver.

Thanks! You got me somewhat pointed in the right direction. The card reader device itself was not showing any drivers, past the inbuilt Windows mass storage stuff. I found the cab package that had been downloaded, and went through deleting every instance of RtsUer.sys, RsCRIcon.dll, RtsUerAllPIDVID.inf, and rtsuer64.cat, including removing the package from the driver store. This didn't entirely remove it, but did break the driver adequately that it showed up as "Realtek USB 3.0 Card Reader" under USB controllers, and allowed me to remove the device while removing the driver, as well. After scanning for hardware changes, the old devices re-appeared in device manager, and I'm able to disable the update. Now my card reader is reliable again. Thanks, guys!
