all key inputs die periodically for 2 seconds on Logitech G13

I have a Logitech G13 that started doing this about 3 months ago out of the blue. This device is discontinued so nothing has really changed on it and I have used it for years without this issue. When it first started happening I thought it was failing. I bought an "open box" G13 from ebay that is essentially brand new and hoped my issue would be resolved but the same thing happens on the new one.In my online searching I have found many others with very similar issues in W10 but with a controller (Xbox and PS4 controllers) so not even sure this is specific to the G13.

The only time I experience this is (so far) is playing PUBG so not sure if there is a correlation to that specifically or it's just because that's the predominant game I play lately. The best way to describe what is happening is that periodically no key input works. The LCD is still lit and if I happened to be running when this happens my character will continue running in whatever direction until the keys are responsive again. It doesn't always happen when I'm moving so it's not tied to the movement keys or any other particular keys that I can tell. I know this because sometimes I'm not doing anything but can't open the map and then I try to move and can't move at all until the keys are responsive again. It's always about a 2 second interval where it's unresponsive.

I have been troubleshooting this the best I can and here is what I have found:
-It usually manifests itself as uncontrolled "autorun" when moving but is not related to movement other than the movement keys are being used so much. It also happens when I'm not moving. For instance in PUBG riding on the back of a motorcycle it would happen and I couldn't open my map for a small period of time. This tells me it's not so much an "autorun" thing as it is a failure of the device to pass along inputs and if you are moving when it happens it just seems to get stuck doing that action.
-The keyboard inputs do work while the G13 key inputs are in this state.
-Actions mapped to my Logitech mouse buttons (and mouselook) also work while it's in this state (both G13 and mouse are managed in LGS).
-it happens on different USB ports (both 2.0 and 3.0).
-it happens when there is a G13 connected *and* a keyboard and also happens if I just have the G13 connected.
-I tried recreating profiles in Logitech Gaming Software. Didn't help.
-I reinstalled LGS a couple times. Didn't work.
-I have only noticed this behavior playing PUBG and no other game (although I have a lot more hours in PUBG since this has been happening so don't have a huge sample size of playtime in other games). I have also played quite a bit of Scum lately and haven't had it happen once.
-I have killed extraneous programs running in the background and uninstalled Razer Synapse. No effect.
-I have updated my motherboard chipset drivers. Nada.
-verified there are no yellow bangs in device manager.
-I have seen some online stating they had this problem as well and it was tied to some Windows update that happened recently but I don't even see the same KB update file listed on my system so I'm a bit hesitant to start uninstalling Windows updates randomly.

I have had very few issues with W10 but I'm really out of things to try and this is driving me nuts. Anyone have any idea what could possibly be going on? Again, this only just started in the last 2-3 months and it also stopped for a while but then started up again which is even more puzzling.

    cproatx,

I seem to be having the same issue that you are having.

Everything sounds the same with the exception of...
    - I have experienced the input issue in a game other than PUBG

    Other details i have discovered...
    - When timed, the input failures seem to happen around every 2 minutes for around 2 seconds.
    - I experienced the same issue in TF2 with both my TF2 and PUBG profiles.
    - I rolled back past Windows update KB4495667 as suggested elsewhere and the issue remains. The option to remove appears if you remove more recent updates first.
    - I have disabled powersaving options on all usb ports and devices and the issue remains.
    - I have removed all peripherals except for the g13 - even testing without a mouse - and the issue remains.

I'll be watching this thread and will update if I learn anything new.

It seems like there have been similar issues with that hardware on that game for years:

    Logitech G13 Gamepad issues

Logitech G13 Keypad issues with Battlegrounds?

I honestly don't think it's related to the G13 specifically. You did find other G13 specific threads about it but when searching I broadened out my search and found identical threads for people using controllers (Xbox and PS4) in W10. The behavior described in those threads was identical and sometimes worse (as in the loss of input control lasted longer than 2 seconds).

This coupled with the fact that I have 2 G13s that do the same thing...one of which I have had for years without ever doing this until very recently...and it makes me think there is some Windows 10 issue going on with various devices in certain circumstances. Hard to say for sure but I was hoping some on this forum might have more info.

    cproatx,

I have solved or reduced the issue on my machine. I've only tested for 10 minutes, but the loss of input that would appear like clockwork every two minutes has stopped.

So I have a question for you. Do you use Discord, and have you given Discord permission to send data to LGS through its integration?

While investiggation some settings permission issues, I deleted the discord files from the logitech folder in appdata. Discord almost immediately asked for permission again and I declined. My problem has stopped for now. I still have a lot of software rollbacks to undo before I declare victory though.

Wow. Good catch. I have actually been wondering if there is some weird conflict between applications. I have thought about Discord but had not tried messing with it. I'll check that out. Thanks for the response.

    Random thoughts:

Is there anything unusual about your environment, like eg lots of static electricity, high humidity, etc?
The clockwork regularity of the problem suggests it could be environmental, such that the G13 needs to cool down or whatever every so often.

If you haven't tried, put the USB cable in a port on the back of your PC—those are generally more reliable than front ports or USB hubs.

Have you tried playing the game in a borderless windowed config, rather than full-screen? That's cured a few weird game issues for me before.

If you have or can get a second monitor, open Task Manager on it and monitor it for spikes in CPU or GPU or RAM usage when your problem happens.
Also look in TM for any apps or services which might be doing something every 2 minutes—indexing, updating, communicating etc…
If you need to go deeper, Process Explorer from Microsoft's SysInternals is a powerful info-rich app.

Look in Event Viewer, see if there are any error messages corresponding to the times the problem occurs.

There is nothing unusual about my environment and I have been in this same environment for many years without anything changing so I doubt that is it. This also hasn't happened with clockwork regularity. It initially happened only sporadically maybe once per match at most. Then it went away for weeks and I thought it was gone. Then it came back and was happening every few minutes. I have also tried both 2.0 and 3.0 USB ports (both on the back and front of PC).

I use a dual monitor setup so I usually use borderless window mode but recently switched to full screen to see if that made a difference. It hasn't happened since I did that a day ago but that's also when I took the advice of the poster above and deleted the discord files that were mysteriously added to my LGS directory so not sure if either or both are responsible for the issue going away (so far).

I had a long night of gaming last night and didn't have the issue happen once after deleting those discord files in my LGS folder so I'm hopeful that may have been the culprit. I'm curious if yours has remained resolved?

So far I'm still cured and have undone all my rollbacks. I think Discord was the culprit.

Thanks for the detailed original post. You gave me a lot to work with.
