RAM Sticks Question

So, I've got an ASUS P5Q Pro Turbo motherboard and I'm currently using Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 mhz PC2 6400 (240 pin) RAM sticks. I want to change the RAM I have and upgrade to 16GB (4 x 4GB sticks) but for some reason all I see is AMD-only RAM. My motherboard has an Intel chipset so I'm not sure if the AMD RAM will work even though the specs are just right for my board. Should I get the AMD RAM sticks or keep looking for Intel RAM?

Where are you looking for RAM? Amazon? New Egg?

You should try to buy RAM specifically mentioned at the Asus website support area for your specific motherboard model. Look for something like "qualified vendor list" or words to that effect. Other stuff may work, but try to stay with that list if you can.

I'm not aware of distinctions such as "AMD RAM" versus "Intel RAM".

Apparently it's true. Some RAM was designed specifically to use the integrated memory controller inside Socket AM2 and AM2+ CPUs. This from 2007...

OCZ is first to market with these standard non-ECC memory for AMD's memory controllers and you can expect for others to follow soon....

These memory modules are not to be used on any Intel chipset, until either Intel or Nvidia incorporates memory controllers that can address modules in the above-mentioned way.

Personally I only ever get memory from Crucial, as in Ken's link. They are reliable and will always supply the correct compatible memory for your particular system.

I had a P5Q Deluxe, gave to my brother and used CORSAIR DOMINATOR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit, 2 kits, populated all 4 slots total 8GB.

Not 16GB, but speed and type I used might help
Corsair might have some 8GB kits that will work.

Last question, does my board support low density or high density RAM?

Never mind. I was looking at AMD memory. I was able to fine 16 GB (4x4GB) for my board on eBay but those cost $135 and up. Why are they so expensive for Intel based motherboard while extremely cheap for AMD? It's not right. I think what I'm going to do is just stay at 8 GB but increase the speeds and be satisfied with that. This is ridiculous. By the way, I had a little chat with ASUS and they sent me a PDF with all of the memory my board supports (not that it helped me in any way). Take a look.
