Which BIOS update for ACER Extensa 5630Z?

    Hello.

By looking HERE, I can see a lot of different BIOS releases.

This laptop came with Win Vista originally but I have installed W10 on it. I have a minor issue with a pcmia cardbus controller (O2) that says that it cannot find free resources to work (code 12). It's not a big issue but I wonder If updating BIOS would solve it.

Current BIOS is v1.25 (Phoenix). Maybe I won't bother at all updating BIOS. What do you think?

V1.36 is the latest, that is what I would use. Of course BIOS updates do have some risk. Make sure battery is fully charged and device plugged in. I always recommend reading instructions twice and be very patient.

Would be nice if they told us what each update does, guess I'm dreaming.

Where did you get driver for the pcmia cardbus? Was this loaded by Windows? I might try the card reader driver they have on their site. Note version of current driver, install Acer driver and then confirm changes.

In the end I dismissed bios updating. Better safe than sorry. It's also very cheap that ACER doesn't provide a changelog.

    No one does.

You didn't mention where you stood on drivers.

While I'm not trying to talk you into anything I've never had a BIOS update brick a machine. PC, Printers, routers, cameras, DVD's, TV's

The point is 10 year old hardware that may have gotten out of spec. The BIOS update should have been done 10 years ago. To pointlessly do it it now is more dangerous and very unlikely to do anything.

I don't have any Firmware updates that have failed, however that has been done shortly after the release date, not 10 years down the line.

I got the drivers from Windows Update first, tried ACER ones too and the one provided by Snappy Driver Installer. Neither of them worked. I started disabling some components from device manager but it made no difference either. No big issue. I don't think my customer is using that pcmia controller ever.
