Disk 5 has the same disk identifiers as one or more disks

    hey all,
I am looking for some help with my external HDD's

I have 3 x 8TB Seagate Backup+ Drives and 1 2TB Seagate Backup+ plugged into my PC via separate USB ports. All drives except the 2TB have external power supplies.

all my hdd's shut down when I am using them and reset and then I get these warnings in the event viewer

    Code:
Disk 3 has the same disk identifiers as one or more disks connected to the system

Disk 4 has the same disk identifiers as one or more disks connected to the system

Disk 5 has the same disk identifiers as one or more disks connected to the system

in amongst the warnings in the event viewer is this error
    Code:
The description for Event ID 56 from source Application Popup cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
    SCSI
    000000
The message resource is present but the message was not found in the message table
all was fine for a long time with the 3 drives but only recently this has been happening
Is there something I can do to stop this from happening, all drives restart fine after the thing happens, on the odd occasion 1 of the drives doesn't appear and I have to unplug the USB cable for that drive and plug it in again for the drive to appear again. The event viewer points to
Go to Microsoft's support website (http://support.microsoft.com) and search for KB2983588 to resolve the issue.
but this thing seems to be for older version of windows. I am on windows 10 latest version.

Thanks for any help you can give with this :)

Have they been cloned or as raid windows write a signature to each drive when its plugged in. If 2 have the same signature it thinks they are both the same disk check disk signatures How to Change the Disk Signature of a Drive Without Losing Existing Data or Reformatting (howtohaven.com)

    hey, thanks for the reply.

the drives are not cloned or raid volumes.

I done what the page you gave showed and got the following info

    Code:
    disk 0 {F45B0074-C549-11E6-A85F-08D40CE097EA} ssd
    disk 1 {3A2B5632-5DF7-475E-A91C-B0063B05FC5D} 2TB internal
    disk 2 2E911574 2TB external
    disk 3 {9395F8C8-CB9F-45B9-93DC-4F965F8ACFD6} 8TB external
    disk 4 {5D99825E-77B3-442E-9FDA-AB5A3933F052} 8TB external
    disk 5 {79534137-0DB2-45D6-9C86-55F99EB60073} 8TB external

I don't see any conflict between the ID's of the drives ? am I missing something ?

why has disk 2 got a different style of number to the others ?

in the pic the 2Tb drive doesn't have a star * in the GPT column, is that normal ?

thanks for any more help anyone can give :)

Disk 2 is an MBR disk ID, the others are GPT disk IDs.

Yes, as it's an MBR disk.

hey all just thought i would post a follow up with this in case it helps anybody else.

after another few days of the same thing happening i decided to change the MBR type disk to GPT and the problem has ceased and hasn't occurred since.

thanks for the help and information you guys.
