Does it shows as 5t when connected as usb? If so I would say yes. even if not its easy to split it into several partitions
where it would work.

I'm not sure if your power supply will be capable of handling 3 drives and a dvd/cd.
I'm still able to connect my 4TB HDDs (GPT) directly to my PC, but my 5TB HDDs are only usable from a USB dock.
You can use some cheap sata 2-4 port pci add-on card.
Edit: See corrected post #16.

PCI cards have slow data transfer rate, sorry for confusion. Correcting my wrong recommendation:
You can use some cheap sata ahci 2-4 port pci express add-on card.
Example: PCES-SH4 PCIe 4/2x SATA 6G controller | Axagon
for thomaseg1...When my 5TB drive is connected via USB, yes, it does show as a 5TB drive. Never knew to consider the power supply as my usage as a senior is limited to email, banking, and shopping. No streaming video. No gaming. Do you think my current power supply will be sufficient. All the larger HHDs will be storage only.

for thomaseg1 and muchomurka...Sorry, guys, but I have no idea what you are talking about with the new hardware mod. What does this do and why exactly do I need it?
I don't know what the maximum possible power usage of the HDs will be, but a quick check suggests maybe 10W each. Unless the power supply is already running too close to its limit, I wouldn't expect a problem.
No guesses as to why you're having trouble with the HDs. They have to be set up as GPT for normal us if they are larger than 2GB. I believe that your PC doesn't offer UEFI, so you can't use a GPT drive as a boot drive.
I wonder whether the BIOS of that old system will accept large drives? Are you using the latest version?
Thanks, bobkn for your comments. All my HDDs are set as GPT and are to be used as storage only. My boot drive is a SSD set as MBR. As far as I can tell my motherboard cannot be reset to UEFI. My old BIOS will handle 4TB and 5TB HDDs but the 5s are accessable only as USB connected drives...the 4s can be mounted without problems. So I'm going to run the 5s from a USB dock and mount the 4s as internal drives.
I have to admit a mistake. The PC uses an Intel Q57 chipset. Much nicer than an old nVidia chipset. (I need to Google more carefully.)
The newest BIOS for it seems to be from 14 July, 2011. I doubt that's a lot newer than what you have, but it may be worth a look.
It's also conceivable that a PCI-E to SATA 3 adapter card would work around the BIOS limitation, as others have suggested. Here's a cheapie: Corn Electronics 2 Port SATA III PCI-Express x1 Converter Adapter Card - Newegg.com It's PCI-E 1, so presumably you have a spare slot that will take it.
Best of luck.
