Flash drives File transfer speed drops to 0 regularly

Hi everyone, I have recently realized my laptop MSI P65 8RF is having a weird behaviour when transfering files or deleting files to/from my flash drives (Kingston Datatraveler Ultimate 3.0 G3 128 GB and Kingston Datatraveler Rubber 3.0 32 gb) it happens that it reaches top speed, around 100 mb/s and then it goes all the way down to 0 mb/s (leds in flash drives stop blinking) and then speeds goes back up again to 100 mb/s (flash drive blinking again). This will happen regularly going up and down, up and down. It happens in both flash drives. Also, I have tried these flash drives in another Windows 10 computer and they work just fine. Data apparently is fine, no data corruption. Another test I did on my laptop it was with USB hard drive, on the same USB port, curiosly, this one work just fine, so apparently it has to do just with the flash drives. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Any idea how address this issue? Thanks.

Thanks for your responde, my thought is the same, to reinstall the USB drivers. However this is a laptop and MSI does not provide just an installer for USB drivers, how can I do it? Can Windows take care of it?

Use Device Manager for the USB Controllers to either update the drivers or delete the controllers which will require a re-boot where the controller will get installed again along with the current drivers.

In my experience, this is "normal". I think it depends en the size of the files that are being transferred, the previous state of the UFD [written or not written], the operation of the UFD controller, and possible other factors. Also, external USB HDD disks and UFDs are completely different animals.

I tried reinstalling the USB controller drivers, but it didn't work, behavior is the same.

thing is, just happens on my laptop, I have tried the same flash drivers in two other computers and in those, they don't present this behaviour, just on my laptop. So I guess there is something unusual with its Windows 10.

It is normal behaviour if you are just using the File Explorer to transfer files, and they are of mixed sizes. large files are a lot faster than a load of small ones.

You can do an experiment yourself, ZIP the files in to one ZIP file and then use the File Explorer to transfer the one large file.
It will do it a lot faster.

Flash drives do not have a large buffer like a USB HDD drive. You can use write caching on the flash drives which essentially simulates that, but there are dangers in doing that should you just pull out the drive whilst cached data is still being written to the drive.

Plug in the USB stick -> on the drive address click "Properties"-> Move to the "Hardware Tab"-> Highight the USB Stick-> Select "Properties" -> Select "Change Settings" -> Select "Policies Tab". Make sure the policy setting is "Quick Removal".
