In Devices and Printers and under Multimedia Devices, there are multiple icons for multimedia devices. I deleted the excess copies once and left one of each there and they all came back. Any idea on how to stop this behavior?

Only thing I've found so far is over on windowsphone where you posted. Similar result for someone with a printer. Seems every time he plugs in the usb cable Windows creates another icon.
Not sure if that is what's happening for you, or how to solve besides maybe refresh usb bus in Device Manager. That other thread with a 'Genie' server believes an update solves but I'm wondering if a script could be run. Is it possible to set either of the Amazon devices as 'default'?
DLNA devices can do that if they get a new port and/or IP and are found during media devices on the network, when you log in and/or boot up the computer. Try assigning a Static IP on the media devices and see if that stops the behavior.
