Hi there. Well I look at the release notes for the bios i would be downloading right? To see if it say anything about battery life? However... i never did a bios update ever on this xps 15 9550. When i checked the bios settings, it showed

    Bios Version/Date Dell Inc. 01.00.07, 11/2/2015
    SMBIOS Version 2.8
    Embedded Controller Version 255.255

Which a person said it was extremely of date. So if there was a battery life fix... what about all those bios updates from then till now? Since the bios update im looking at does not say anything on battery? But it would do everything the previous bios updates do if it include better battery?

Also, so you are not 100% sure if the setup of just tpm with bitlocker pin and windows 10 password or pin is secure right? Obviously nothing is 100%.

But would you bother with the secure bios with password and disable usb boot? The other thing is this. If i do this... is this procedure extremely safe to do compared to flashing bios? Such as ppl say its rare but possible if you flash bios... something could go wrong. But what about the secure bios with password and disable usb boot.

New BIOS versions will contain the fixes for the older ones. So you would have to look at the release notes for all the versions from the one you currently have to the latest version.

Honestly I would just install the latest version and stop worrying about it. There are enough safeguards these days that in the tiny chance that something goes terribly wrong you can still recover.

I personally don't bother with the BIOS password and I do boot to USB occasionally so I leave it enabled. Enabling the password and changing the boot options is simple and risk-free.

Hi thanks for the response on the bios issue.

Is there any articles here on what to do if something goes wrong with the bios update? Sorry im just very paranoid with this so i just want to make sure.

So the bios password is to prevent someone from taking your hard drive on your laptop and putting it on another computer to view its contents right? Thus secure it from being used on another device? What does the disable usb boot or you booting to usb mean? I had no idea what this part meant but those guys said you had to disable usb boot as well.

I just thought about something that i did not thought previously. My TPM is 1.2. I read the articles and apparently most laptops use tpm 2.0 correct? I read tpm 2.0 gives you only 32 attempts for trying to log into a pin for bitlocker before locking it and only allowing you to try another pin every 2 hours or so.

Do you have tpm 2.0? Now does that mean because my bios is not updated... then updating my bios would most likely make my tpm 1.2 to tpm 2.0 which would give me that security of someone getting only 32 attempts at guessing the bitlocker pin? So i have to go through all the bios updates for my xps 15 9550 to see if this was implemented in any of the bios updates? Or is the tpm what you have typically what you always have?

Okay would most of you say update bios or not? I do agree with that person that said risking it for what if i don't know what it is going to do. I thought its good for keeping computer up to date? And also maybe better battery? But lot of ppl say battery has no effect on it.

I typed bios update brick and i saw this. This is same laptop i have..,
