How do I get both drives to show in W expl with RAID 1 configuration?

    Hi.

I ordered my computer with two hard drives configured in Raid 1 (mirror) format two years ago.
This has worked perfectly well. In windows explorer, both drives showed (with different drive letters).

After a problem with the PC recently, I reloaded W10 from scratch and set up the Raid function again using the windows instructions at boot up. This was very easy.
This time however, only one of the disks is showing in explorer, although at boot up I can see that Raid 1 is in operation.
I would like both drives to show in explorer as previously.

Does anyone know how to do this please ?
    Many thanks.

Also, when researching RAID I noted that several different sources said it wasn't a substitute for back up and wasn't suitable. Wonder why this is as it seemed perfect for what I wanted out of backing up files.

I have just seen a reference to "Windows Storage Space" in a thread on here.
Looks like this might be a better alternative to RAID anyway.
    Might try that.

If the RAID is implemented through hardware as opposed to software, users and applications see only a single logical drive at the OS level. When RAID is implemented through software, the OS sees the separate drives (in tools like Disk Management).

RAID 1 is not a good backup scheme since any corruption or accidental deletions would occur in both drives of the mirror. Therefore losing the data.

RAID1 is only intended to allow continued access to the data should a failure occur in one of the drives.

Thank you for this reply FreeBooter. Much appreciated. I'm not sure I understand though. I guess that as I could see two different drive letters for the two RAID 1 drives before, they were set up using hardware at the manufacturer. By hardware, do you mean a dedicated RAID card ? I cannot see that one is installed in my PC.

I have watched numerous how to videos on You Tube and none even mention that it is possible to show two different drive letters when in RAID.
    I'm puzzled.

By hardware i mean RAID card or RAID controller integrated within chipset. Software RAID is a type of RAID implementation that utilizes operating system-based capabilities to construct and deliver RAID services.
