How do I change the status of my printer from offline to online?

How do I change the status of my printer from offline to online? We had a new BT modem installed yesterday and the printer was working afterwards, but it's not working today.

It's Murphy's law - I have lots of printing to do and have promised to do some for one of my daughters over the Easter holidays but no blasted printer.

PS Please ignore my incorrect signature - I have latest WUs

    Hi, absolute basics:
Is the printer recognised when you connect it?

If it is, then you have a driver, and it's powered up.
    If not....

    Then try: (bottom right)

    Then you can try
    Win key +r, control.exe

    Then type print (top right)

where you will see some options.

    Printer problems update

Hello dalchina. The printer is recognised but it states it's offline. I ran the Troubleshooter* and it said I had to contact my network administrator because Windows couldn't fix the problem. I then followed the prompt Next and it ran the Troubleshooter again. It said the 'printer cannot be contacted over the network'. I asked for detection details and it said Printer cannot be contacted over the network.

Should I now ask BT, please?

    Printer problems update2

Sorry but I realise I've just said something that's just plain daft. Blame the weather - we're not used to warm sunshine "oop narf". It's nothing to do with BT - it's probably my printer settings so I'll play around with those and get back soonest.

Sounds as if you have a network connected printer.. sorry, I'd foolishly assumed a direct connection..

    Printer problems update 3

Purely by chance, the Brother Support team responded to an email I'd sent them a week or so ago. Their solution is below, in case other TenForum members with Brother printers have the same problem.

Thanks for your help and I'll post a link to here in the Microsoft Community for anyone there with the 'printer offline' problem.

    Thanks again - much appreciated.

Based on what you've told me, I think the best step to take is to reset the network settings on your printer.
    To reset your network settings:

Press the Settings icon (the button with a spanner and screwdriver on the touchscreen)
    Select All Settings
    Select Network
    Select Network Reset
Hold the OK button for two seconds

The printer will reboot and will remove any wireless or wired connections.

    To reconnect:

Press the Settings icon (the button with a spanner and screwdriver on the touchscreen)
    Select All Settings
    Select Network
    Select WLAN
    Select Setup Wizard
(It may ask you to 'Enable WLAN' - select 'yes')
Find your wireless network from the list
Put in your network key (the WiFi password), making sure to put in capital letters where appropriate
