    Aftermarket ink for inkjet cartridges

Apologies for posting the thread in this subsection but I couldn't figure out where I should post. Admins, feel free to move the thread to appropriate section.

I am wondering if anybody refills their inkjet cartridges using aftermarket ink? I usually use laser printer for B&W stuff but for color I have inkjet printer. I don't want to spend for the cartridges, hence considering a refill.

I don't want to go to Costco to refill the cartridges, hence checking aftermarket ink. Anybody has suggestion or something that they are happy with?

    Thanks in advance.

You made me chuckle because I really don't print much these days. Everything I have is electronic and either on my phone, tablet or computer. But yet I have done refills in the past but they get messy and the print heads lose crispness (crisp detail)...

Like Soapm, I've tried that in the past. And like Soapm, never found it to be very satisfactory.

When my cartridge-based printer finally died I bought an Epson Ecotank which has refillable ink tanks and (very cheap) bottles of official Epson ink. The Canon PIXMA G series is another refillable inkjet printer.

Me too, for the most part. But I do like to print a few glossy A4 photos to put up around the house (and that eats up the ink).

The idea of the Epson Ecotank is spreading and there are now conversion kits for a number of manufacturers Printers. These actually convert an existing non tank filled printers to a tank fill

Continuous Ink System For Epson, Canon, HP and Brother Printers

I'm not sure of ink cartridges in the US but the cost of the conversion does seem a little high until you look at it over the life of the printer.

You do need to be careful with these conversions and take extra care to ensure that the caps are firmly attached as an Accident with one of these lage Tanks cane make a serious mess.

My way was to get a colour Laser printer to replace my last inkjet, which does be for general colour prints @ 18 Pages a Minute at about 3 cents a page. If I need high quality for wall mounting I just go online and order prints I want, printed professionally often onto Canvas which is difficult to match at home

This is a neat idea. They are not available for the printer I have. Its officejet 6830.

I rarely print. All printing stuff is for the kid's school and project work.

HP build several different ranges of printers, DesignJet, OfficeJet, Etc, the ink cartridges can often be used in multiple printers across the ranges, [unfortunately HP are not logical enough to have a Designjet and OfficeJet that use the same cartridges to have a similar code number] you may be able to find out if the cartridges in your printer are compatible with any of the available packages on the list. Check the cartridge number in your printer and check if HP catalogue, or reseller shows a printer that they also fit that is on the list
