Memory Upgrade Tutorial for Acer Aspire XC-603G Desktop

I ordered the new memory chip for my mother's Acer computer yesterday morning. The problem is, I am having trouble finding a guide on how to install the RAM for that specific computer. Acer has no instructions on how to do it. I have read online that some people have had issues finding where the extra chip goes.

The RAM on it is upgradable to 8GB, according to Crucial after scanning the computer. But does anyone know or can anyone be so kind and help me find a tutorial for this specific computer saying how to install the extra RAM?

Did you get an 8gb chip? It looks like the computer has one SODIMM slot. It's right next to the power supply when you take the side cover off. Very easy to find.

@NavyLCDR, yes I ordered an 8GB chip. Crucial said it supported up to 8GB.

Looks like a mistake.

The Acer Aspire XC-603G has two SoDIMM slots. The maximum size SoDIMM for each is 4GB, for a total of 8GB. Apparently a single 8 GB SoDImm is not supported.

@bobkn, yes that's what I ordered. I let Crucial scan the computer to tell me what 8GB module it needed. I also found where to install the memory. There is one slot that is already occupied by the standard and removable 4GB chip. 1 of the 4GB chips that I ordered goes in one of the slots and the other 4GB chip goes in the other slot.

So what did you actually buy? It sounds like you bought two 4GB SoDIMMs, not a single 8GB one.

If it had one 4GB SoDIMM installed, you may have gotten by with adding a second 4GB SoDIMM. It's best to match a pair, but it's not always necessary.

You may not find a YouTube video to help. It's fairly simple. You insert the SoDIMM into the slot, tilted up slightly above the horizontal. There's a slot in the DIMM so that you can only insert it one way. Once it is fully seated in the slot, you tilt it down so that the metal clips engage the semi-circular cutouts in the ends of the DIMM to lock the DIMM in place. I hope that's obvious. The Acer may be slightly confusing in that its two RAM sockets are at 90° with respect to each other, and they are not stacked.

Sorry I was mistaken, I only saw one SODIMM socket in the YouTube video.

@bobkn, I ordered the 2 matching pairs. The ones for $57.99. The 2 x 4GB modules. The Acer was confusing at first, but I think I understand it now. Now, the waiting game until it's delivered.

Has anyone ordered from Crucial before? How long did it take for your package (or if you ordered memory from them) to reach your destination? My memory is in Birmingham, Alabama and it says it's currently in transit to the USPS facility. However, the tracking information was last updated at 3:57 pm Central Time yesterday. I just hope it gets delivered tomorrow. I get so impatient waiting on important packages.
