SSD over provizionning

I have a brand new 970 evo plus 500gb, which is actually 460gb (10gb less than the 970 evo....) and before i install w10, i want to know if overprovizionning is required. Some people say Op is not required.

No. Overprovisioning is NOT needed (required) for Windows installs.

Provided you do not fill the drive entirely overprovisioning is not required on most current ssds.
On Intel Optane memory based drives it is not even required at all even if you do fill the drive.
SSD suffers from repeated writes, overprovisiong or not won't reall prevent that. Intelligent cacheing would.

Overprovisioning is something around 5-10% as a default, depending on the manufacturer of a particular SSD, design and it's Firmware, controller etc.
Look it up with Samsung if you want to know.
The area is required for evening out wear, garbage collection and replacement memory cells should they die early.
You would not want to add to this with Windows.

On an SSD, free space is free space. It does not matter if you have 20 GB free in a partition or 20 GB free set aside as unallocated for over provisioning. That 20 GB free space will be used exactly the same by SSD. The only reason to set aside the space as unallocated is if you have a habit of filling up your partitioned space.

No. And I don't think it matters if you OP or not. I'm sure someone did some measuring but I suspect it really doesn't matter. And you're likely to replace the drive before it wears it out.
