HP ScanJet Pro 2000 s1 Sheet-feed Scanner Front Panel Button prob

I just set up and installed the scanner. All seem okay save for the front panel scan button does not work. Could there be some conflict with NAPS2? I have been trying to set the HP to the default but cannot figure out how to do that. When I first initiate a scan I get this forced choice. I want to skip it and have it start the HP. Is there any way to this? I bounced around in settings but could not see a way to choose between the two. Could this be the source of the front panel button not working. Thanks for any thoughts.

I fiddled with this some more.
Seems the stall on the front panel button action is the pop up to select the scanner software, as I show in the screenshot above.

So now my problem is how to set / unset a scanner as default. What I have tried has not been productive. I am likely missing something?
    Thank for any thoughts.

Did you install the latest driver? https://www.support.hp.com/us-en/dri...anner/10430933

I thought the HP install CD took care of that? It was very busy when I installed it.

    Apparently not! 8/29/2016 41.1.2155.16242

I have looked and looked and cannot find a way on this page or the subsequent ones for actuating a download.

    Have I missed something somewhere?

I still could not get the page you show from mine.

I went back to "HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads" then marched down to your page.

That put me where I needed to be.

    Defender shows 36097 files scanned.

    That seem like a lot.
Is that typical of such a driver update?

No threats so I will install it now.

    Updated driver did not help.

Same response as in the screen shot above.

Still seems like one should be able to set one scan app as default and switch between multiple app will?

Apparently the updated driver has locked me out of the Window Scan utility as well as NAPS2.

Is there any way to roll it back?

Both the non-HP tools have pluses that I do not find in the HP app.

The HP interface is very difficult for me to see and very clumsy in portrait mode.

I noticed that I have seven HP Background Processes in my task manager.

Is there someway I could suspend the one(s) that are interfering with Scan and NAPS2? Then get them working again?

    Any other potential solutions?

    Thanks for any thoughts.

In Task Manager, End task of Each HP process.
Press the Windows key+X and choose Apps and Features. Uninstall all HP Scanner and printer software for this device. Unplug the USB cable from the computer end and restart the computer.
Download the latest drive and software package from the HP site, when it tells you to plug in the USB cable do so.
