Problem with dvd writer in HP dv 6700 laptop

I have been trying for some time, to work out how I can fix my dvdrw in my laptop, it just suddenly stopped working, although it still ejects with the button, so power ok and the disk spins inside for a few seconds, when closed. I bought. A replacement dvdrw, but same story, read all sorts of stuff about hi and lo filters in the registry, although couldn’t find anything......so decided to clean install windows 10, but made no difference. There are references to a cd rom in the bios ( not much in the way of options in this bios ) but not sure if these are simply default options regardless if a drive is recognised or not.

    took some pictures

if the connection to the MB ok, I could fit a caddy SATA to IDE, and fit an ssd.....but if the hardware is faulty it would be a waste of time.

    any ideas please ?

Your CD/DVD drive is not being recognized by the computer. Open the side of the case and follow the Data cable from the back of the CD/DVD drive to the motherboard. Make sure the cable is plugged in tightly to the back of the drive and to the motherboard. In the Bios on the First tab, System Information, it should list your HDD and if you have a CD/DVD drive by manufacturer name
If not, then try a different SATA Data cable. Try a different Power Plug from the PSU, make sure it is in tight to the back of the drive. Try a different SATA port on the motherboard. Make sure the port that you plugging the drive into on the motherboard is Enabled in the Bios. If the Drive is not recognized in the Bios under System Information, then it won't be recognized in Windows.

It is a laptop. They slide into the board inside. Best for the OP to use a portable if they still need dvd’s.

Thanks, but being a Laptop, removing the case etc is not so easy.....can’t see any option to enable ports, although it was working one day then not the next, can’t see how a port could be disabled in this situations anyway.
i have a portable DVD burner, but doesn’t solve the issue....want to know if I have any way of finding this or determining if the hardware is faulty or not.....personally I can’t see a way.

may buy the Sata to ide bay and try an ssd, only £7 so not the end of the world i guess....

The Device Manager is not seeing it, otherwise under Display adapter would be DVD/CD-ROM drives, with a branch to the model number.
I presume you have tried the simple stuff like Device Manager > Action > Scan for hardware changes.
It may have died or a connection inside may have become detached. Either way you need to look inside if you intend replacing it, which can be done.

What those seem to miss is you have to transfer the Facia plate, keep hold of the back bracket from the old one in case you need it. Looks very straightforward.
The whole back would have to come off to look at all the connections by the looks of it.

It is 10 years old so may well be a hardware failure, it is up to you whether you want to spend time on it, 'cause it is not going to last much longer.

    Hi
time isn’t an issue, just don’t want to end up with a pile of parts and unable to reassemble, it is working very well, considering it’s age W10 PRO and rather fast.....will look at the videos, thanks..

Their laptop is easy to open. You just take off two panels, the battery and then pull the screws on the bottom and the hard drive, then the cover comes off. From there the dvd drive is removed after one screw is removed. http://www.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01035677.pdf

There is only one screw to unscrew and the CD/DVD drive pulls out the side
