Canon Add Printer Problem- Operation failed with error 0x000006be

    Hello,
I am having a problem installing the drivers of a printer. The printer model is Canon MF4370dn. This shared printer is actually connected to the USB port of another Win10 pro 64bit Desktop PC. Till recently it was working fine. But all of a sudden it is not working. Had uninstalled all the printers except for the microsoft pdf, onenote, fax, send to one note.

I have then tried reinstalling this printer. But keep getting an error ...
    "Add Printer
    Connect to Printer
Windows cannot connect to the printer
    Operation failed with error 0x000006be"

I have tried the methods of the article "printmanagement.msc" and also "PrintBrmUI.exe [from article: www. tenforums. com/tutorials/101051-backup-restore-printers-windows.html]

Hope you will be able to let me know where to start to correct this installation problem.

    Thank You,
    Bimal

    Hello Ken,
    Thank you.
Went through the link and reviewed the settings listed on the webpage. Checked that everything was as required on the "Primary PC" (from the webpage). It was, so did not change anything.

Tried to add the printer again ... got the same error.

As an after thought checked the windows version ...
First PC [Primary PC] (Windows 10 Pro 64bit v1809 build 17763.379)
    Second PC [Windows 10 Pro 64bit v1803 build 17134.590]

Could this be the cause for the problem? Will have to update and find out.

    Thanks much
    Bimal

    Hello spunk,
Have done that. But still get the same error.

I just noted that the Windows versions and builds differ on both the pc. (as replied to Ken) ... will have to verify if that is the cause.

    Thanks much,
    Bimal

So on the device that has the printer connect you've gone

Start > Settings > Devices > Printers and scanners > Click on printer > Click on Manage > Click on Printer Properties > Clcik on Sharing tab > Change Sharing options > clicked Share this Printer and gave it a name.

By the way if you have any third party AV's running please disable the firewalls.

Both these devices are on the Private network, one isn't listed as Public network.

    Hello Ken,
Checked and made sure that both the PC are on the same network category "private"

I know you stated it but just for me.

Have you completely removed your Canon printer from the device with issues. May need to see if Canon has a tool or try Revo Uninstaller.

You want to wipe any traces off the machine.

Then install software and drivers. Not sure if it will ask if device is network attached.

    Hello Ken,
I have removed all the traces of the installed driver ... first by uninstalling it from all possible locations and also by editing the registry (searching for the printer name under LOCAL USERS & LOCAL MACHINE). Then tried adding the printer. But got (getting) the same error.
I have tried to install the printer manually and search for the printer drivers using windows update ... selected a nearly similar printer model. this got installed. but the test print did not come out on the paper ... hence deleted the printer.

Also tried to force check for windows update. That too didn't work. It is not showing any new updates for it.

    Thanks much,
    Bimal

    Hello Ken,
The pc just updated to the Windows 10 v1809 build 17763.404 ... after rebooting I added the printer ... it accepted the drivers and installed without any issues. The test page print on the paper was successful.

Thanks much for everything ... everyone.
