    raw hard drive

    hallo
I have a hard drive that was gpt ntfs used as secondary drive. (storage)
I set a wrong id for the volume and then i understand my mistake and i set again the good id (ebd0a0a2-b9e5-4433-87c0-68b6b72699c7)

But now the ntfs is shown as raw.

    The check disk show:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32>chkdsk D: /f /x
The type of the file system is NTFS.
The first NTFS boot sector is unreadable or corrupt.
Reading second NTFS boot sector instead.
Unable to determine volume version and state. CHKDSK aborted.

It is possible to restore it?

    1. What is the capacity of the secondary drive?

    2. Please "safely remove" any and all external storage Devices. Only internal drives. Post a screenshot of Windows Disk Management Disk Management - How to Post a Screenshot of . Upload How to Upload and Post Screenshots and Files at Ten Forums

    3. Download and install MiniTool Partition Wizard Free version 9.1 from https://www.filehorse.com/download-p.../old-versions/ ( If you had installed any later version uninstall it before installing version 9.1)

Run it and launch the application. Say NO when it wants you to update. Post a screenshot of how your drives look in it - the very first screen that appears on launching the application.

All screenshots should be full Windows and not truncated.

    4. Setting the ID : I am hearing it for the first time.Do you mean the Partition ID? What was the necessity to change the ID?

    5. Please explain the process by which you set the ID.What is the correct ID and what is the wrong ID you set? I need this detailed info so that I can replicate your HDD condition on my Trial HDD and study what it could have changed to make it RAW. If it is something specific to Windows 10 then I may recuse myself for I have no Windows 10 to replicate your HDD condition.

    6. How many partitions did you have in that drive?

I found that i had a backup online so i formatted the disk and i downloaded it.

I made a mistake. We all know that a gpt drive for storage has 2 partitions a small 16 mb (or 128mb) that is hidden-reserved with guid E3C9E316-0B5C-4DB8-817D-F92DF00215AE and a second partition that has (GUID) of EBD0A0A2-B9E5-4433-87C0-68B6B72699C7.

The mistake that i make was that this identifier is set by me from EBD0A0A2-B9E5-4433-87C0-68B6B72699C7 to DISKPART> set id=D3BFE2DE-3DAF-11DF-BA40-E3A556D89593 that is for intel rapid start.

OK, you goofed up in executing Diskpart while installing Intel Rapid Start Technology .

"DISKPART>select Volume Z(Z is the newly created RAW partition. Refer to results from “detail disk” for exactvolume number)
    DISKPART> set id=D3BFE2DE-3DAF-11DF-BA40-E3A556D89593DISKPART>exit
    "

Instead of executing it on the RAW volume on your System SSD , you did it on the other internal HDD..Am I right?

"What was the necessity to change the ID?" Had you brought out the reason why you ventured into setting the ID in your first post, things would have been clear. And then the backup you had, saved the day.

( I wouldn't have been able to replicate the problem on my HDD since I don't have UEFI and Intel inside or outside anywhere and also it is a Microsoft Windows 10 and Intel Colloboration to put the necessary settings in UEFI)

When I examined my Trial HDD drive which is GPT, I found that only the drive had a GUID in Drive Properties. No means to change the GUID.The 128MB MSR partition Properties did not have any serial number or GUID.. The data partition Properties only showed a Serial number which could be changed. No GUID ( as visible and examined in Partition Wizard)

Anyway you saved me from a data recovery excercise .. I would have gone through a lot of time-consuming investigative process in trying to restore the disk to its original state. The result would have been unpredictable.
