Hello vanderzee, and welcome to Ten Forums.

Usually, you should be able to set "Microsoft Print to PDF" as the default printer.

Check the options in the tutorial below to see if it is listed for you to set as default.

In Printers & Scanners select Print to PDF as your default printer

    thanks for the reply
problem is, MS print to pdf is installed, but the are no printers to choose, the menu is simply empty
if i try to search for a printer, the only choice is to add a physical printer, no option to add a virtual pdf printer

nitro pdf should work on windows 10, so it seems to be a bug/problem with windows 10 (nothing new, it has way too many bugs)
i searched a lot already, but don't seem to be able to solve this

    thanks

sometimes metro interface mess up so nothing like old school windows , so did you try setting it to default using the old route : Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Devices and Printers ?

MS Print to PDF does not go to a physical printer. The "print" dialog prompts for where you want to save the PDF document. Save it anywhere you choose. It can be printed later, if you wish.

CTRL + P will give you this dialog.

This is how to set "MS Print to PDF" as default printer.

Print to pdf and others should be manageable here.. Do you have any Group policies enabled? Enterprise environment?

    In GPedit check:
    Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options
if you have some security options enabled.

Otherwise, In place repair should fix this:
