EVGA G3 650Watt Eco Mode Question

    Hello All

Is it better to just leave Eco Mode on and let the Power supply control the fan as System temps increase or should I turn Eco mode off and let the fan run all the time?

My temps in my Asus G11CD-K are average I believe for a Intel Stock Cooler, 1 exhaust fan (92mm) and 1 video card

Highest seen it get during heavy encoding on Core 1: 82C according to Coretemp 64

    rest was around 64-75C

Right now 33C with hardly doing nothing

(Still running Avast Free, but by 1903 switching to Just Defender, Malwarebytes on the systems I believe)

If you are "worried", let it run all the time.

But how much difference would that make, given your fans?

Having said that, those temps aren't outlandish.

Anything can fail at any time for who knows what reason and it's rank guesswork to assume that lower temps will give you more longevity for any given set of parts.

    But if you are worried.................

Is fan noise a factor to you?

Do you have a front mount for a case fan?

I can't find out much detail on that case. I guess that's a pre-built "gaming" PC of some type.

The pix I've seen aren't encouraging. It may be that there is no front fan mount. You should be able to see for sure if you can get the side panel off and look.

    If it were me, I'd:

1: try the fan on 100% of the time and see if that helps by more than 3 or 4 degrees. It might not.

If not, then your choices might be to live with the temps or change exhaust fans (likely little help given 92 mm) or change coolers (might be some help, but you may be restricted by either limited cooler height or your budget/willingness to change coolers).

I'd probably lower my expectations and live with the existing temps other than to hope that maybe not using "Eco" mode would help. Hard to justify putting a lot of time and effort into that case since temps aren't horrid.

Yeah I'll turn off Power supply Eco mode, may help with the fan running all the time, given this case isn't much that is gonna help, changing cpu coolers might be limited by size possibly, if need be I can always have a shop look into changing the cpu cooler, temps aren't that horrid thankfully.

and yes a Pre built Asus Gaming Machine purchased September 2017, the newer systems they updated the cases with power supply on the bottom, but this one still has power supply on the top above the CPU and exhaust fan.

Anyhow just gonna be happy with what got, unless I discover some extra money at some point and do a major upgrade, but no idea when that will be as yet lol
