    Sata ports question

Hello all, i have just built a new ryzen PC, with a Asus B450 F MB , and i just got a Samsung M.2 970 EVO 500 Gig to replace my current 850 Evo, from what i understand my MB uses sata ports 5&6, i currently have 2 devices connected to those ports. would moving those two to different sata ports have any affect on my OS or devices ?

    Thanks in advance

It would only effect the disk number is 0 1 it's best practice to have the boot drive as 0 but not essential

If you have your current drives connected to ports 5 & 6 I would move them 3 & 4.

Next question would be are you going to Clean Install W10 on the M2 drive or are you going to clone it ?

Hello Storage man and thanks for your reply, I have actually installed the M.2 Drive and drivers, i am going to clone my OS ( on 850 Evo ) to the M.2 drive using Samsung data migration, the m.2 Drive has not been formatted as yet, so i am wondering if the Samsung data migration software will do the formatting of the m.2 drive ?

    Thanks in advance

If running multi drive options it can help to name them.
For instance I have my C drive SSD labelled
    W10 SSD
    , my HDD
    W10 HDD
When tired and moving quickly it has helped stop me doing anything unintended in the past.

Well the M2 (970 drive) is 6x faster reads & writes than the (850 drive) in benchmark mode (that really doesn't mean much). But could you please explain what is a "significant increase in boot time" is ? It maybe something that the Samsung software did during cloning since I know little about it (I have several Samsung SSD's, but never used that software) ?

Hello again. well maybe i was hoping for a faster boot time, i just timed my boot up., 45 secs from power on to windows login screen, and once i put in my password it was almost instant to the desktop, my 850 might have been a little longer, is it possible to maybe reduced a lil bit more ?

    Thanks in advance
